When I turned 40 my husband surprised me and flew my family to Oklahoma to surprise me! (they lived in California at the time) That morning my folks called to wish me a Happy Birthday, not knowing that I would see them that evening while we were all sitting at a local restaurant! So much fun and I will never forget it!

One of my sweetest birthday memories is of my oldest son (now 8!) singing Happy Birthday to me when he was just around two years old. My husband had secretly taught him the song just to sing it to me. It was one of the rare moments we happened to catch on video and I will treasure that little song forever!
Happy Birthday to you!

Happy Birthday Alisa. My fondest memories are usually birthday gifts I have given myself.. lol. A couple of years ago, I gave myself a art workshop - Paint Like an Artist - at Donna Downey Studio. It was so wonderful. Lots of friends were made and an increased love for art for the wannabe artist.

Happy Birthday Alisa. I love birthdays. My mom always made our favorite dinner when we were kids. She also made our favorite cake, mine is a 2 layer poppyseed cake with a lemon filling. It brings back great memories.

have a great day.

Happy Birthday!!!! Hope it's fantastic!

One of my favorite birthdays was when I was 9 or 10 and got a polaroid camera. I thought I was the best photographer ever after that and burned through a lot of (expensive) polaroid film.

Aw! Happy Birthday, Alisa!!

My best birthday memory is of my grandmother when she was still alive. Even though my birthday is in July, she would bring me argyle knee hi socks because she was always afraid I'd be cold. So very sweet. I wore them proudly. :)

My favorite birthday memory was when I was younger and my parents surprised me with a bike. I took it for a test drive and when I got back they said there was another surprise in my room... Turns out my aunt was in from out of town and came over to celebrate my birthday. It was such a special birthday that year.

Happy Birthday :) Thank you for the wonderful blog and inspiration you share. My favorite birthday memory was when I was 8 yrs old. I told my mom I wanted a layered cake like I see in story books and she made me one with pink frosting, many layers of circles with little cowboys and Indians all around each layer to the very top! I thought that was the best gift yet!

Happy birthday to you! My favorite birthday memory was the year we had snow. We seldom have snow where I live, so that was a special treat.

Happy birthday week! I realize that my favorite birthday memories are a ton of tiny details... Growing up having ice cream cake and spaghetti for my birthday feast, celebrating by splurging in dinner at the Chinese food buffet when my husband and I were broke in college... Honestly, I prefer other peoples' birthdays so I can treat them special instead of getting the attention myself!!

Happy Birthday, Alisa. I already won a free class from you last year, so I don't think it would be fair for me to win again, but I just wanted to say Happy Birthday and on behalf of everyone, thanks for your generosity! My favorite birthday memory is when I had 3 parties. We were on vacation in Canada visiting my sister, and her in-laws threw me a surprise party with the most delicious chocolate cake. Then we went to Indiana to visit my brother and had a party on my actual birth day, then when we got back to CA I had a party with my friends! (I think that was the year I turned 17). Fun times!

My favorite birthday memory is the year when my mom gave me several small presents: one every hour. I don't remember the presents anymore, but I remember how it made the WHOLE day special. It was perfect for me because I always preferred to open one present at a time, play with it, then move on to another.

My favorite birthday memory is the one when all of my family worked together (Aunts, Uncles ,cousins) with my parents to get me all the skiing gear and season ticket that year. It was 14 that year and my birthday is in Dec so it's perfect time of year too!

Happy Birthday Alisa! One year at my birthday party my Mum taped loops of ribbon onto (what seemed like) hundreds of lollipops and hung them all over the pine tree in the backyard. My birthday is in June so having the tree decorated with candy like a Christmas tree was amazing to me! She said that was my 3rd birthday. I'm 32 now and still remember that magical feeling of the decorated tree :)

Happy early birthday! I have so many happy birthday memories that it is hard to choose just one. There is the time I forgot my own birthday and thought everyone was playing a prank on me. That was pretty funny. But I think my most special memory is a reoccurring experience. Every year, since almost all my cousins and siblings had birthdays within 3 weeks of each other, we would all gather at my grandparent's house for food, good company, and presents, to celebrate all of our birthdays at once. The best part was when my cousins and I would sneak outside before cake and go exploring. We would always pretend to be in other worlds and we would have the grandest adventures! I have so many happy memories from those times that I can't wait to share with my own children. I treasure those memories and will hold on to them always.

Unknown said...

Happy Birthday Alisa! My cousin's birthday is on the same as yours and while I have many favorite birthday memories of my own, one of my favorite all time memories was part of my cousin's birthday. She was turning 8 and at that age a slumber party is usually what's called for in terms of the party. She had all her friends over for the night so my aunt called in reinforcements to help out (my other cousin and I). We had a great time playing games, dancing, dressing up, watching movies, eating yummy snacks. It was awesome to be silly and act like a little girl again. I hope you're able to share similar moments with Lucy when she has her first slumber party.

Rebecca said...

Happy birthday! My favorite birthday memory is one that wasn't funny at all....but now that I've grown up it's hysterical. I was having a slumber party and my mom had the great idea to give me a permanent while my friends all played dress up and put on a runway show for me. Trust me when I say...that is not the best way to celebrate your birthday! I was soooo upset! :)

Alicia, it doesn't matter how old you are turning it is always met with disbelief! Where does the time go? Enjoy your 39 years because before you know it, you could be turning 60 like I am this summer!! My favourite birthday memory is one of many. My mother always made a fuss of our birthday. We could choose our favourite meal and she would make it. We could also choose white cake or chocolate cake and she would make it. But best of all we were treated extra special and didn't have to do any chores that day. Candles on the cake, family singing Happy Birthday (sometimes sibling solos), wishes, and the first piece for the birthday girl. Who could wish for anything more:) Alicia, enjoy your special day!

Happy almost Birthday Alisa! So many fun birthday memories, it's hard to choose 1! I'll go for this year - my husband and I made amazing enchiladas for dinner, but because chocolate keeps me awake, we decided to have dessert first - a terrific homemade chocolate cake with butter cream frosting. We'd been nibbling so many delicious appetizers, then with a slice of cake, nobody had room for the main course: enchiladas, green salad & fruit salad! We ended up sending home "enchilada logs" with everyone to have for lunch the next day :). Truly a sweet time with family though. Thanks for this opportunity!

Happy birthday week!

My favorite b-day memory is on my 25th. I worked in Seattle at the time and lived in Puyallup. My boyfriend had dropped me off at work, and I was waiting for him to pick me up. A man came into the office and asked for me. It was a limo driver. Vince couldn't afford to ride in the limo to pick me up (the clock started when I got in), so he created a video for me to watch while I was being driven home. At home, my mom, daughter and sister were there as well. We all piled into the limo and drove out to Pt. Defiance (after picking up pizza). We had cake and mimosas and an all-around good time. :) But the best part was the video because he recorded his side of the conversation that we'd typically have on the way home. It was fabulous.

Happy Birthday fellow Pisces!! My birthday was last week. Hi Alisa! My favorite birthday memory is my 50th for sure. My son in Colorado & my son in Seaside had a surprise party for me at my own house, and I didn't know anything about it until I walked in & they yelled "surprise!" All long distance, they got a caterer, a big banner professionally made with pics from throughout my life & lovely sentiments. Friends & family came from near & far, many flew in from long distances and it was amazing. I still get goosebumps when I think about it over 5 years later.

Cheers to you on your birthday, Alisa!

Hugs from Sheila!

Oh my goodness Happy Happy Birthday! One of my favorite memories was a mix of good and not so good. I grew up wanting a horse...forever. Neighborhood living kept that dream on the back burner. When I married a farmer, I thought I would finally get that horse...but life, kids, and responsibilities again prevented the dream. When I turned 50, I decided it was now or never. My husband and boys readied my horse space...fence, re-did a small shed, even made my horse a sign..."George," for my special fellow. He came and I loved him....till I began to break out...big time. Head to toe hives...several doctor visits later, many shots and steroids, much misery, it was agreed I was allergic to horses! Apparently I never knew as I wasn't around them long enough at a time to have this horrid malady surface. So...on the big day, my 50th, poor George had to go and live with my cousin. It was, at once, one of my favorite birthdays (thanks to a special boys/husband) and one that was a bit tough....but for a week, I had a horse. Have a great day, and wow, what a great week of giveaways!

It was REALLY nice to have so many people wish me a happy day and remember what being the "birthday girl" was about. In fact, thinking about it makes me so happy I might do it again this year (I don't think my family would really mind being dragged to Disney on my birthday, either!)

My birthday is December 22 so while everyone is in a festive generous mindset it has always been "here's your birthday and Christmas present!"
So for my 50th birthday I gave myself and husband a full week on the beach! Had my toes in the sand doing a happy beach dance just like I had always wanted....

I have 2 fav birthdays. My 7th birthday was outside under the willow tree & was a big party. My 40th birthday was a total surprise party. My poor hubby kept me out of the house so long & I was really mad at him for that, until we came home & I was so surprised but so apologetic to him. So Happy Happy Birthday!

One of my favorite birthdays was actually my 21st! My siblings and good friends went to a children's museum (which are fun at any age!) and then to a concert! It was such a blast, I will always remember that birthday!

Way to ring out your 30's Alisa! One of my favorite b-days was my hubby signing me up for a printing class. This was shortly after we had our son, and we had to take a short car trip and stay in a hotel so I could print both Saturday and Sunday. I remember ordering room service and was crazy dorky excited that we could just slip the dirty dishes back on their tray into the hall... total luxury!! lol

My favorite birthday memory was celebrating my 40th with my girlfriends all weekend. We tubed in the snow, watched movies in our pjs all afternoon, played games, and had long conversations, all things moms of young children rarely get to do. I love my girls! Thanks for the giveaways, and happy birthday. Don't be afraid of your forties - they are great!

Happy Birthday, Alisa! Growing up we celebrated with a favorite dinner & angel food cake. Last year was my most memorable. Came home from a work trip to a broken furnace & it was freezing cold. My boyfriend was under the weather, but he still came over with a card & chocolates & told me he wished it was more. Melted my heart :-)

My favorite birthday memory is of my daughter's surprise party when she turned 8. We decorated at the neighborhood pool with a Hawaiian theme. Her Daddy dressed in a grass skirt, coconut bikini top, and a lei for a headdress! She was sufficiently surprised, delighted, and embarrassed! She is 15 now…and we all still laugh about it!

Every birthday is a favorite. I just love birthdays. Not just mine but others as well. People think I am crazy because I always get so excited when I have a birthday or if I get excited for someone else. I always tell people it's their special day. No on can take that away from you. But I have to say my best memory was when I turned 7. We lived in an apartment complex. Every year my mom made a birthday cake and invited the neighbor kids. No one had much money so I received lots of handmade goodies. Right down to the wrapping paper. I think I liked the wrapping paper more then present.
Birthday's aren't about growing old, they are about experiencing life.

Happy happy birthday!!!! My favorite birthday memory was when my parents threw me a surprise party with all my friends and a boy rapped a birthday song for me.....so embarrassed but remember it like it was yesterday. So 80's I know.....but I rocked the big hair too!! Best wishes and thank you for your generous gifts :)

Happy birthday! How generous you are with your wonderful classes. I loved the one I took. I just turned 50 and was thrown a great dance party in a theater with lots of old friends and family. It rocked.

My favorite birthday memory is that, every year, my dad would play at 6 am Birthday by The Beatles. (volume to max, he didn't care what neighbors said/thought) He never missed one birthday! Now I live on my own, and I really miss this so much that I play the song for myself every year at 6am loud. It puts a smile on my face and brings the best memories of being a kid. I hope I get to do the same for my kids :)
Happy Birthday to you and wish all the best to you. Kind regards from Nicaragua!

Happy Birthday Week! My greatest memory was after I bought my first home, left for the day, came home, and saw the window coverings moved... which made me think someone had broke into my home. When I walked in, there were 25 co-workers and friends waiting for me for a SURPRISE. It was really awesome!

My favorite birthday memory isn't for my birthday but for my best friend's. She is an amazing person who works hard and does as much as she can for other people and tends to be taken advantage of. Her and her husband are only a day apart so the night between their 21st birthdays I had her sister take them out for dinner and while they were out I went crazy and set up her house for a surprise birthday party. I had everyone park like two streets away and walk to the house so they would have no idea anyone was there. The looks of happiness on their faces was worth every minute!

First of all,
♫..Happy Birthday to Y♥U, Alisa..♫...

One of my fondest birthday celebrations is when I turned 50..yes, really it was! 50 days before my birthday, my sister did the sweetest thing for me...She secretly contacted and assigned 50 of my family and friends to each take a day and send me something with 50 things! (I received a 50 min massage, 50 Ho Ho treats to 50 reasons someone thought I was special) My b/d is 2 days after Christmas so many years my birthday just kind of blended in with the holidays, but not this very special one.

My favorite birthday memory was two years ago, when I got to spend it at my favorite place in the world, our beach house in Murrell's Inlet, SC. The weather was perfect, and my mom, boyfriend, and my dog (my 3 favorite people!) spent the day on the beach relaxing, swimming, and beachcombing. Later that night we went to dinner at my favorite restaurant, did some shopping, and had ice cream. I got great and thoughtful presents from all of them, and it was just a perfect day!

Happy Birthday a few days early! I still love celebrating my birthday. Thanks so much for this exciting giveaway. Probably one of my favorite memories of a birthday was when I turned 8 years old. Growing up we didn't always live close to extended family, but since it was my 8th birthday and I was getting baptized, both sets of my grandparents, and aunt, uncle, and cousin, and my great grandfather all came to celebrate my birthday. I can still remember so many details and memories from my 8th birthday and I felt so special to have so many family members there to celebrate with me. On a funny side note I also remember I got a pair of My Little Pony roller skates that were a complete surprise and so exciting to an 8 year old little girl.

My favorite birthday memory is from my 21st birthday. My mother conspired behind my back with my best friends and planned a surprise kidnapping! My best friend flew in from NY to be a part of it. We've never really been big on birthday celebrations, but I've never felt so blessed and happy as I did when coming home and being surprised by them all and surrounded by so much love.

One of my favorite birthdays was when I was 10. There was a posse of us little girls who hung out together at the lake where my granddad had a cottage. We had a fort in the attic of our garage, and the girls made me a cake, brought me presents, and we swam and did macrame (which was all the rage back in the 70s!). Happy birthday to you!

HBD! The first memory that comes to mind is how my mom set 'rules' for how to wrap my birthday presents. I'm a near Christmas baby - 4 days before. Friends and even family would try to forgo birthday gift wrap just because Christmas paper was plentiful. My mom made it very clear my day was not to be forgotten and bday paper was a requirement! Love her for that! :)

60 was extremely memorable. We had moved from NSW to QLD and I still had strong connections with my friends in Sydney. As a result we returned there to celebrate my special day. Each separate group had a party for me over a week. The most amazing was champagne in the evening next to the Opera House, and overlooking the Sydney Harbour Bridge. My art group had composed a poem in my honour which was read with a gorgeous backdrop of Sydney Harbour at dusk.
You can't beat a week long party with THAT ending.

I still had to 'party' with my new QLD friends when we returned, but old friends are goodies.

We did go back later and pay the bill...
