inner alchemy collage: build a new world deck

I am so honored to be a part of Inner Alchemy Cards- Build A New World Deck from Mindy TsonaschoiJoin 16 artists and makers for card making as we use it to explore interconnection, radical love as action, and social justice as you create your own 35 oracle deck.

Inner Alchemy Collage: Build A New World Deck (online) is an artful exploration of language, learning, inspiration, and collaboration, that delves into important ideas around activism and systems of oppression. This is a way for us to examine and disrupt harmful dominant narratives, tell new stories, and inspire one another to use our creativity and personal power to help build the collective world we all want to live in!

In the end you will have a beautiful and meaningful handmade deck of 35 oracle cards to use as unique a tool for guidance and reflection whenever you need it

How the workshop will work:

  • You will receive 35 Inner Alchemy Card prompts via email to use as self-guided inspiration to create your unique deck and explore our Build A New World lexicon. Emails will be sent weekly on Sundays, 5 new cards per week, beginning June 20th and ending on Aug. 1st.

  • With each card prompt there will also be a resource and action step shared to support you in taking your learning further and your activism off the screen and into the world!

  • The workshop also will include easy card-making inspiration and how-to tutorials on creating your cards, finishing your cards, and using your Build A New World Deck in inspiring and impactful ways.

  • Create your cards any way you wish! While you certainly can practice the Inner Alchemy Collage process - which I will share in class - you can also draw, illustrate, paint, stitch, photograph, and make your cards in your own unique way.

  • You do not need to be an artist or activist to participate! Just have a desire to get messy, create in rad community, learn and grow, and take small actions towards positive change!

future of my studio retreats

Recently, I've received inquiries about the future of my Oregon Coast art retreats and while I've talked about things over on my Instagram account, I thought I would give a little update here.

As many of you know, I canceled my retreats back in January of 2020. When I made this decision I knew it would likely extend into 2021 and here we are! While I know many of my creative colleagues may be doing things differently, at this point I've made the decision to hold off on scheduling any live retreats for 2021.

I know there will likely be people who won't agree but in this moment, the decision to cancel live events continues to be the right option for me, my family, my values and my business philosophy. If there is anything this year has taught me (and there have been many things) it's that it's ok to pivot, reinvent and change things! So for now my studio retreats will continue to be on hold until things feel safe and appropriate.

Getting to open my studio, teach, create and share my hometown of Seaside, Oregon with so many creative, beautiful souls from around the world has not only been an honor but life changing. I cannot tell you how much it means to have shared my studio with so many of you and I look forward to the day when we can gather and create together again. In the meantime, I will continue to offer online classes and creative opportunities. Thanks to so many of you out there who support what I do!

NEW! online class!

Hello friends! I've got another new online class for you!

NOTE: During this hard time it’s been really important to me to offer discounts when I am able so this class will be marked down 50% during this challenging time.

CHASING FREEDOM
NOW $10 (Regular Price $20)
Launches Feb 22nd

chasing freedom online class with alisa burke from Alisa Burke on Vimeo.

Typically when I plan and create my classes I try to come up with ideas based on things customers are requesting or topics that I think are needed and will be received well. Then there is the rare occasion when I plan a class that is based around what I am craving in my own creative process- hoping there might be some kindred spirits out there craving the same things. Chasing Freedom is the one of those classes!

Lately I’ve been carving out more time for freedom from expectations by working abstract and expressive. This is where my painting process began in my early days as a painting major- using paint and materials to simply express myself without pressure or the need for specific results. This is the way that I work behind the scenes over here when I am not teaching or making art to sell. It is where I am able to find freedom and create without abandon and I am so excited to share this process with you!

In this class we will be using a variety of different surfaces (any surface) and materials to explore expressive prompts, techniques and exercises.

We will be working through 1 lesson a day for 30 days. Through color, movement, intuition, connection and emotions I will be sharing all kinds of concepts and techniques that I utilize in my own art making process when I work abstract and expressive.

My hope is to inspire you to chase after freedom in your art making process!

All of my online classes have unlimited access which means that you can join in at any time, come and go as you please and create at your own pace. All ages and levels welcome.

playing with scale

No matter what I’m creating, I love playing around with scale! There is something really interesting about making art in different sizes and all the things you learn throughout the process. Working large will always be my jam and the process where I feel most free. But when I work small, even if it’s a tiny doodle, I’m uncomfortable and I feel restricted but I still make time to do it because I always make new discoveries!

If you haven’t mixed things up with scale, give it a chance! Pick a surface size that is outside your comfort zone and get creative filling that space.
