a creative halloween

hhpsdWe really don't celebrate or do much for Halloween but it is becoming a tradition to at least play a little dress up and have some digital fun on the blog! (see last year here and the year before here)

I have been wanting an excuse to dress as my all time favorite artists and celebrity couple- Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. And while they never were able to have children I couldn't resist making Lucy into a version of La Calavera Catrina (the Elegant Skull by Jose Guadalupe Posada an etching that was later incorporated into Diego Rivera's painting- Dream of a Sunday Alameda Park). I knew one day all those years of taking art history classes would come in handy!

Wishing you a creative (and safe) Halloween!

Funny! We just went (two weekends ago) to the new special exhibit at the Art Gallery of Ontario of Diego and Frida's art exhibited together. It was a great show, and if it ever travels your way I would definitely recommend it.

It was a revelation to see his "smaller" work. I was more familiar with Frida's paintings and his murals. His paintings are fantastic and such an amazing use of color!

I love your blog and am an inspired reader always. I was thrilled to sign on today to see your Frida costume. I too was Frida this year!! Last year I was a girl from a Lichtenstein painting. I'm having so much fun with my Halloween artist series that I am already dreaming up ideas for next year...the Scream would be a fun one. Keep the great posts coming. Thanks for the wonderful example you are to all artists!!
