handmade giving

I've been making handmade gifts since I can remember. As a artist and crafter it has always been my favorite way to show love. And amidst the insanity of the holiday season, no matter how busy I am, I always make time to create handmade gifts. Part of my process is thinking, reminiscing and even praying for the person that I am creating for. I draw, I paint and I create with my friends and family in mind. Each brush stroke I paint, each line I draw, I am thinking about the people that I care about. This process has become my favorite part of the holiday season because it keeps me from going crazy with the shopping, rushing around and getting lost being a consumer. Today I want to challenge you to take a little time to make something for someone you love- a love note, a doodle, a handmade card...anything (even if it's small) to step away from the holiday madness for just moment and use creativity to show your love.

I think my favorite part about your whole blog/instagram, is that you seem so intentional. All of it seems so purposeful and not just to fill space or pass time. I love it all! You inspire me Alisa!

Just love how you have transformed these moon snails! I always make the majority of my gifts and I love to do it and for the most part the results are very pleasing to the recipients!! One person however, has started to get mad at me because she claims that it is simple for me because I can make everything. I have told her that it just takes the desire a bit of planning and some willingness to try. Needless to say she is still angry with me and makes disparaging comments when ever anyone gets things that I make when she is around. unfortunatley she is a family member. I have not altered my behavior, however, she gets a gift card. Move away form the toxic naysayers!!

You inspire so many!! Bravo!!
Happy New Year to you all!!

Those are so beautiful, and I love what you say about making gifts. In fact that is why I am late reading this post as I have been doing just that. My grown up daughter and I were set to have a 'Little Women Christmas' (what I call it when you aren't planning on having any presents, as they didn't in the book), as money is tight just now. But I decided to make her a couple of things from what I had. So she now has a lovely make up bag and a knitted and embroidered pencil case.

It has been so enjoyable and they are really nice gifts too (I think!)and really in the spirit of Christmas, working on them while listening to lovely Christmassy music to set the scene.

Thank you for all that you continually give us, and it is a lot and I am most grateful and appreciative of your artistic talent and your sharing of it. Wishing you and your family a very Happy Christmas and joy for the new year.

They are gorgeous! And I know EXACTLY what you mean ... I've been hand making cards (and crochet topped hand towels) outside the Christmas madness and it is definitely a wonderful way to "switch off". Most of these people won't be getting them until the new year but I figure it's a lovely way to start the new year!! You're an inspiration!! Gotta make mini Christmas pudding balls yet!!!

Thank you for this. I was so encouraged to read that you pray for others as you create your art for them. I make handmade cards and pray for the recipient as I create too. Blessings to you this Christmas & in the new year!

Wow really I am speechless that how can I admire your designs. Recently I was trying to do the same for my ornament, but due to lack of my art I can't complete it. One of my neighbors ordered a hand craft jewelry from CreativeArtyCrafts. I really appreciate that design so I had tried to do for my own self at my home but failed. Plz share the process again.

I absolutely love these shells!!! The designs are so intricate. Beautiful work. I love to Zentangle too but never thought about doing it on shells. I did paste one of my designs around a can for a pencil holder. These shells would make great jewelry, ornaments or whatever. The possibilities are endless. Thank you for sharing!

I am trying to use a micron (blue) 01 pen on a shell, and it keeps smudging on me. Do you treat it with anything, or cover the design with anything to keep that from happening? I even tried using a dryer on it which seems to work short term, but then a few hours later it starts smudging again. I appreciate any suggestions you have! BTW the shells you made a beautiful!!
