new online class-the art of abstraction and a giveaway!

Untitled-1

When I got to college and decided to major in art I was more than ready to explore new ways to get creative. I had spent many years feeling pressure to make art that looked pretty and perfect and was anxious to learn different methods and techniques that could set me free and release that "pressure" to be perfect. During my college experience, I found myself gravitating towards projects and classes that had more to do with abstraction and expression and less to do with realism and perfection. And once I got the taste of how drawing and painting felt when it was expressive, emotional, wild, free, and came from your gut- I was hooked! While these methods were just a few (of many) in my arts education, they seemed to be the ones that really stuck and ended up creating a foundation for my creative process and my art.

Untitled-2

These days, while I love making beautiful and refined art and crafts, I also find myself returning to abstraction when I need to just let go and be free. Using methods and techniques that are expressive and abstract has enabled me to understand how to use my experiences and my emotions to make art. This process has helped me loosen up and let go of perfection in all of the art that I make. In my next online class, I am thrilled to share this process with you!

2
The Art of Abstraction will introduce you to the concept of making abstract and expressive art. I will share a variety of methods, techniques and prompts that will inspire you to find your voice and your unique style. I will challenge you to a new way of seeing and teach you fresh ways to make art with all kinds of alternative tools and methods. We will throw images, perfection, pressure and creative trends out the window and instead- make art with our emotions and with our gut! We will channel our individual experiences and STOP over thinking the creative process.

Join me for the Art of Abstraction!

So cool! This looks like it's going to be fun.

Mood today: gray. I've actually had a headache for two days straight, so I kind of feel like I'm trapped in a sludgy, slow mood. Not very exciting, I know. :)

Let's see - what colour represents my mood today? I think it's a purple day - not sure why, but I ended up doing a painting of little purple houses today. (Definitely not one of my usual colours!)
Can't wait for the class to start!

I studied art in college, until changing my major. I don't regret the decision, because it was what I needed at the time. But over four years have passed since then, and I had virtually stopped doing art completely. It's something I've really missed in my life, but have been too "busy" and just not in a creative mode. Then this last week I discovered your blog, and it has triggered my creative drive and passion for art once again. I just wanted to say thanks for that. I signed up for one of your classes already, and am so looking forward to doing more in the future!

My mood today is orange, because I'm feeling so motivated and energized to be creative and artistic. A good feeling!

Unknown said...

Today I had the most wonderful painting experience. I ALMOST threw out the painting SEVERAL times - no exagg! It just was a bomb, over and over again. But like life, the layers did something magical, and delivered a background so wonderful, I am not at all sure how to proceed. I may not. But the color it left me was a deep turquoise with a rustic accent running through. All the best to you and the class ahead.

This class sounds right up my alley, especially in my recent mood. I want to go further, know what I mean? I feel like this class would help. (I just found out about your blog 2 weeks ago, following a post by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer).

My day has two colors : red for passion and sparks, making art with my kids, taking pictures and making a layout... and black for the practical side of my mind, cooking and getting ready for work; figuring how to fit in what I need to get done, so I have more time for the red side of me :)

Hello Alisa, I love your blog, and has brought back the love that I have of art and being creative, to put my feelings in art, where I am who I am. I am feeling the color red today. I found a cardinal singing outside of my house today, and made me feel happy and happy is what I feel. :)

I have always wanted to do an online art class! I feel "stuck" in my artwork and definitely over think things!

The color that represents my mood today is blue. There is some stressful stuff going on, but there's hope!

Blue...a blue norther blew through last night interrupting my thoughts and making me understand why "they" call a storm blue. Orange is starting to peek through just a wee bit, a lucky and auspicious color.

Whee! Another class to explore--can't wait. I've been feeling green recently--the desert in AZ is starting to bloom and I'm heading back to MI soon where the leaves are already opening. I love spring!

Oh, what a great gift you're offering us- once again!

My mood is green- in all shades: The dark green of my study, which reminds me of a tranquil forrest, the soft green of my favourite sweat-pants, the bright and gentle green, which starts to push up through the soil as the flowers on my balcony grows and even the bright neon green of the post it stickers and highlighter ink in my term paper and the associated books and essays...

love, yash

I'm entering this Mega Lottery here because your class sounds just the ticket to jump start my new art exploration (at age 65, Ha! It's never too late.) Today, I'm green, not for metaphorical reasons, but because I'm jealous of fabulous young artists who started early and had the courage to claim their creativity.

Today I'm pale, pale pink -- so pale there might not be any color there at all but it IS there and it's getting brighter -- gee, am I really talking about color???

Today I'm feeling Robin's Egg Blue. I'm not sad or anything, actually quite content at this very moment. Spring has sprung and I've been listening to the birds chirping all morning. I love your classes and would love to win this one. Thank you for the opportunity!

Today I summon electric blue for the energy to deal with the uncertainities and challenges in my world right now, and a sense of calm and knowing that a brighter world is closer than I see. I will wear blue today to and face my fears with determination and optimism about my future. Thanks for raising the question and reminding me of the power and healing properties colors hold for each of us!

I am all gray pinstripes today - not that I wear gray pinstripes, but I am feeling cold, hard and guarded today.

I'd love a free class to let the other side of my personality have some breathing room!

If my feelings could be represented in a colour today, I would be a deep blue (I found out a few weeks ago that I was having a miscarriage... and over time I felt better - but this past weekend I found I am still pregnant with a non-viable pregnancy)

Hopefully later, I will be orange :) I havea few girlfriend coming over for dinner tonight,a nd we are having tacos. We always have lots of fun when we get together, I am in need of a girls night

Can rainbow be a color? Not because I'm overly moody today, but just because rainbows are beautiful and I am just feeling inspired by all the beauty around me today.
