a peek inside my sketchbook

IMG_3597

I am back from my trip to Colorado and even when I am on the road, outside of my studio and away from my daily comforts, I always make time to create. It is important not to let the outside stuff (travel, business tasks and general distractions) keep me from the daily practice of drawing and working through ideas and creativity in my sketchbook. While on the road I take quiet moments- in the airport, on the plane, before bed, after dinner, on a walk- to quickly sketch, draw things that stand out to me, use my photographs for inspiration, make color observations and exercise my creative muscles. Here is a little peek into a few pages of my sketching from Colorado...

something about taking a peek inside someone's sketchbook is nearly the same to me as reading their diary...very personal and in your case? very beautiful!

I really love your style. I love getting a peek into your sketchbook. More please!! I love Colorado. I have lived in Lafayette and Brighton. I have a lot of friends and family there. Seeing your blog posts recently has made me homesick for CO. Need to plan a trip!! Thanks for the inspiration to art journal.

I can just say ditto to all of the above. Do tell about the sketch book---kind, size, etc. and the paints you use while traveling. This brought a huge smile.

Love these!!!
Question: do you sketch first, then paint - or paint the color, then sketch black lines when it's dry?
Just curious! I usually paint first.

Yep, I'm with everyone else. I've told my man that I want the Color Theory class for Christmas, but if you did a sketchbook class, I might have to do that one as well. From some of the pics, I'm guessing that it's the portable Sakura watercolors. Ya, I may have to get my butt to the art store soon. I've been coveting them for some time and this is just enough motivation to get me to shell out the dough.

Thanks for these glimpses. Love them!!
