butterfly easter eggs

Spring is here and Easter is around the corner and for the last few years I've a tradition of coming up with a variety of egg decorating tutorials for my readers! Every year I challenge myself to get as creative as possible with all kinds of supplies. I've got a few fun ideas coming your way in the next couple of weeks.

The first is a SUPER simple way to create butterfly Easter eggs and a perfect project for the kiddos!

I started by drawing my butterfly wings-yes you could use a stamp or even print off digital wings but I like drawing and painting my own.

Next I painted my eggs.
I like using real eggs that I blow out (remove the yolk by poking a hole in each end and then blow the yolk out).

I added the body of the butterfly to the egg, glued on the wings and added pipe cleaners to for antenna.

The result are cute colorful little butterflies perfect for any Easter celebration!

geometric eggs

A couple of years back I shared a fun tutorial on decorating Easter eggs with doodles and a Sharpie pen. This year I couldn't resist putting another twist on this project! This time around I doodled geometric patterns and I filled that pattern with black and grey watercolor to add shading and contrast. These might be my eggs yet!

speckled eggs

I love using dots in my creative projects- big dots, little dots, polka dots! Dots are a very fast and easy way to embellish Easter eggs. I gathered some of my favorite materials and went to work covering my eggs with all kinds of simple dots.

scrappy little easter eggs

If you are like me (which I have a feeling some of you out there are!) you probably have lots of fabric scraps. I can't quite bring myself to throw out all my scraps- even the tiny ones because the creative ideas are really endless. In my quest to create some more unique Easter eggs I decided to put all those teeny tiny scraps to use...

I started by selecting fabric scraps.

Next I bought some cheap plastic Easter eggs and pulled out my Aleene's Original Tacky Glue-one of THE best crafting supplies to ever exist :)

Using a brush I began to cover the surface of the egg with glue.

I added scraps to the glue and using my brush I pressed down the fabric.

I covered the entire surface with scraps of fabric and then added a thin layer of glue all over the surface to get all the edges and loose ends pressed down.

I smoothed everything down with my fingers- messy but effective.

I let the surface dry and then added a little rolled fabric flower to the top. Tutorial for flowers here

and then I went to town with my favorite supply ever- a black sharpie!

I doodled my way across the surface of the eggs with flowers, paisleys and all kinds of simple designs.
