fireplace makeover (part 1)

We have lived in our house for over a year and been slowly tackling all kinds of DIY projects! The most recent project was part one of a makeover to our fireplace area. Since the day we moved in we wanted to paint the brick white to lighten things up and finally we got around to it! While we have a lot more work to do, (next up will be fireplace screen, mantel, built in shelving to replace the bookshelves) I wanted start by getting a little creative on a budget to spruce things up! Here is a little peek...
After a lot of research, I used a heavy duty outdoor paint and painted 2 coats to the outside of the fireplace (due to heat on the inside, it is pretty typical to not paint the brick on the inside). Eventually we will add a nice white screen to lighten up the opening!

The result, a fun, brighter and more colorful area that balances out the room and will hold us over until we finish the rest of the renovations to this area!

The banner just kills it for me. I think you are really flirting with too kiddy on the whole thing but the banner takes it over the top for me

I organized my books on this itty bitty bookshelf by color and you'd be surprised how many comments I get on it. It took a little time, but it takes clutter and makes it look cohesive. So cute. I'm jealous of all your natural light!

Hi!I like very much what you have done! It looks great. I live about a year in my new house too & my summer project is to paint my fireplace white! Could you please tell me what paint did you use? Did you use anything else before the paint? Thank you in advance

Hi :) I love the change whitening the fireplace did, it makes the room much lighter. I myself might have painted the sides and the back also white, to me it looks like a real dark spot in the wall. And the real nice oven would look much nicer in front of a light background.(Wish I could express myself a little better)
Greetings and a smack to Lucy :)

What a great space! We have a wood burning stove in our front room and it makes things so cozy during the winter.
My favorite is the TV cover and the spirit sticks.
Thanks for sharing your space with us!

I LOVE IT!! I like the color coordination. We have only been in our house for one month, but my husband and I are enjoying all the fun DIY projects. I never thought I would be such a HGTV junkie, but I can't stop watching.

Hey, Alisa! Your fireplace looks cozier now after your little makeover project. The room looks really lovely right now with all these combinations and mixed colors placed against your white fireplace and walls. Nice! I hope you do the same on your chimney in terms of keeping it in good condition.
