There is nothing that inspires me more than the great outdoors and I am excited to be offering a class dedicated to the beauty and possibility that lies in a landscape. Come along with me as I take you on a journey to some of my favorite landscapes and locations in Oregon. Along the way I will be sharing techniques, tricks and inspiration for capturing the beauty of a landscape. And since I love to break rules, there is nothing traditional about this landscape class! From painting, to drawing to photography, I will demonstrate simple and FUN ways to use composition, balance, line, pattern, texture and color to create unique and expressive landscapes with a variety of materials and supplies.

UPDATE WITH WINNERS:

painted party pumpkins from make wells

Hi! It's Megan from Makewells here today with a colorful post showing my own version of "fall - South Florida style!"  If you are like me, then you totally drool over Alisa's gorgeous pumpkins every year. I look forward to seeing what she will create every year! So, I decided to make my own collection this year, incorporating bold colors and hand lettering!

We don't get much of a change color wise here, so I stuck with my favorite bright, beachy palette. 

Instead of a spooky, Halloween theme, I wanted to do some encouraging, positive lettering on a few pumpkins. So after painting some bold brush strokes on each pumpkin, I added some black lettering on a few.

Each pumpkin had a unique color scheme...but they all compliment each other and our wooden, "Florida" patio furniture. 

To make the lettering really stand out against the bright and busy backgrounds, I added a white drop shadow for an extra pop.

These pumpkins will sit outside and be subject to the sun and rain, so after painting I used a clear acrylic sealer to help them last the whole season. 

Now we have a some fall decor to brighten up our front porch and welcome guests to our home! Thank you Alisa for the inspiration with your pumpkins! The possibilities are truly endless!

channeling inspiration and a free coloring download for you!

Yesterday I shared photos from our trip to the Cistus Nursery and today I thought it would be fun to give you a peek into how I channeled that inspiration. A really important part of my creative process depends on exploring the world around me. The Cistus Nursery had so many plants with really unique shapes and textures that really got my creativity flowing. When I go home I spent a couple of days painting and drawing everything that caught my eye. Here is a peek.

on the hunt for inspiration- the cistus nursery

The Cistus Nursery is a magical and unique micro nursery located on Sauvie Island. We spent the morning browsing through all of the gorgeous succulents and tropical plants searching for creative inspiration. Tune in tomorrow to see how I channel that inspiration!
