a woodland picnic

Some of the fondest memories I have from childhood are ones that involve getting dressed up and hiking into the woods to celebrate holidays and events with my family. Our house sat on the edge of a forest that served as the backdrop for adventures, make believe, family gatherings and picnics. There was something about those woods, something that was magical and everything we did in them, even the simplest of things, felt a little more enchanted. These days, we live in a house that sits on the edge of our own forest and we have made it a priority to create similar experiences for Lucy. We want to show her that there is beauty and possibility in the simplicity of nature. That there is something quite marvelous about getting all dressed up to dine under a canopy of green trees, listening to a symphony of birds while soaking up the magic of the forest.

  2. Alisa - The picnic tradition is wonderful (I think I might have to steal that!) And you have never reminded me more of Kate Bush! I'm ready for you to start singing in the middle of the forest and dance right out of the picture on those red shoes. :)

I love reading your blog. Not just because of your art, but because you've woven together your creativity, your career, your family, and the nature around you, so beautifully. It's inspiring to see someone achieve this. It reminds me that it is possible.

How is Lucy about getting her picture taken, you get so many cute ones of her. Does she not mind it or do you bribe?

    Thank you for sharing!

What good parents you and your husband are for being a living example of and teaching Miss Lucy about the important things in life - family, love, nature, and art!

I hope you are also including music in her life lessons - after all, what is life without love, art and music?

    You are very inspiring....
