using goache. I've had a small set for about a year now and have yet to crack it open. I should do that no matter whether or not I win this giveaway. :) Hope you had an amazing birthday week!

Hi, Alisa! I'm a collector of graphic images and would like to learn how to use them to make greeting cards. Sure I could cut things out and glue them to cards, but ... I bet you would have some ideas that would not only be practical but inspiring.

Jo Murray said...

That's a very generous offer Alisa. I have always admired your patterned drawings. You make your walls, and other objects, so beautiful. As a painter I don't draw enough and would find many of your classes a way to add to my art 'toolbox'.

Hi Alisa, happy birthday xx
Having worked digitally for most of my creative career, I have started using actual & paint due to your inspiration. I am obsessed with my water brush now, & ready to learn more about paint in general. I have your background class which I love. I also have your animal class, I love that too. BUT I would love to learn how to paint more kiddie people with a more whimsical style. I have a kids wear decor business & it would be so useful. I am hopeless with eyes but I know you'd have a wonderfully teachable way to translate this.
Thanks for the opportunity.
Kylie :)

Thank you for such a warm, generous offering.
Like many artists, I'm always interested in learning new ways to use art supplies and new techniques. I work mostly in collage and mixed media now, but would love to learn more about my watercolors-I have many kinds, but rarely use them. I'd also like to learn more about the many uses of gesso. And I'd really like to learn more about developing my own, distinctive style in drawing and painting. I feel my collage work has a distinct style, but even though I've drawn and painted all my life, I don't feel I've ever discovered my style.

I have never commented on anything such as this, but I have been a fan of yours for years now. About 10 years ago I stopped painting out of frustration and ended up having a long break from art. But your inspirational posts have given me the love of art back. I now dare to make a mess of things and really enjoy the process of doing so. Being a poor ex student, I could never afford to splurge on art materials, so I use what is given to me or found. Spending money on classes have been totally out of question. I just wanted to let you know that you are an amazing inspiration and I hope you had a great birthday! Best wishes from Sweden.

AmandaYeager said...

Wow! I know it's true that people who give, get back multiplied and from the most unlikely directions. Wonderful things are going to start popping all around you and it's going to be fun. Creativity has always been a part of my life with one thing missing, I can't draw. Now I know it's a learned skill like so many other things, but I seem to have a block that so far I haven't been able to get past. I suspect I'll never be great at it, maybe never even good, I just want the joy of doing! I'm a one legged woman in a wheelchair and I want to sit at the park or by the lake and get lost in putting what I see on paper. There are so many things I can no longer do and I usually find a way around them. I need some help with this one. A few years ago I was turned down for a jewelry soldering class, by a state wide organization no less, because I couldn't sit on their tall stools. The one thing I want to do everyday is draw. I paint, do collage and assemblage, all sorts of creative things, but what would probably bring me the most joy is drawing. I've seen your work so many times, very large and small, in black and white and glorious color. If you've ever had a creative block in your life you've gotten past it. I've seen your work and I want to learn from you, although I can't afford classes. Who knows, there's nothing I enjoy more than life's wonderful surprises.

MKat said...

I want to learn to be more spontaneous! Can that be learned? Anyway, I wish you the Happiest of Birthdays and Blessings!

Happy happy to you!!!!! Your classes are the only ones that have gotten me to loosen up and play! I am still trying to find my voice with practice. I try so many things on canvas and in journals and on packing paper. I'd love a class dedicated to starting to recognize your voice. Even through various mediums. Thank you for sharing all of you with us!!!!! Much love!

nkjohnston said...

You're such an inspiration to me, and your art techniques seem to be what really make me try things like my watercolors, painting canvas, using paint, etc. But I really would like to learn how to come up with a designs or keep going through a drawing without just copying someone else. I have no seeming ability to simply imagine things on my own. I enjoy working with polymer clay, but I'm bored with traditional canes, etc. I'd like to learn more organic ideas.

I love watching you with Lucy. I had an open to create policy while my children were growing from decorating cookies to creating wood sculpture to painting faces and gardening...and they have grown up so "well-rounded" because of it. It has even helped them in their NON-art related careers today...2 in medicine and 1 in the design world. So...I want to learn how to help today's children use art practice as a tool to relieve stress and learn to play like I used to play with my children. All of these classes would be excellent tools to help me accomplish this desire to pay it forward!

I think one of the most exciting new ideas in art is three dimensional design, like the pens where you draw in the air and build as it sets. So far these pens are unsophisticated, but they are rapidly improving and I can see them creating a whole new genre. This is what I would like to learn more about, and I'm sure many more of your readers would love to find out more about how to integrate 3D into their work. I would love to win your generous lifetime package. I blog and link to your blogs often because I think your work is fresh and fun.

Happy Birthday Alisa - this is a great giveaway opportunity. I enjoy all your classes. Let's see, what do I want to learn? I'm interested in so many things. How about lets do a class on making those beautiful bowls your mom makes. Teach me how to do that. The ones where I don't need a wheel or a kiln. I'd love that. A pottery class for different types of bowls/trays we can make for our homes. Why not include a different recipes to go with each type of bowl or try. Like a chip/dip bowl, a cheese tray, or a vase, a large salad bowl, the ideas are endless.

Oh wow! What a fabulous giveaway idea! The thought alone makes me happy :)

I would love to learn best practices for collage in terms of long lasting materials, adhering graphics, and sourcing imagery that's not copyrighted. I have this funny feeling that I'm doing it wrong, and I'd love to feel more confident as I create.

You are an amazing artist and I love how your daughter is involved in your art and creating her own. I have a 2 year old and I love including her in some projects I do. I am a painter, sculptor and jewelry maker, but lately I have been absorbing all that I can on wood burning projects. I have a lot of ideas I want to try but still in the learning phase and getting more confident with each new project.

Happy Birthday. I would love to learn how to sketch like you do. My inner critic gets in the way when I attempt to start a sketchbook.

I would like to do more painting on fabric and items to make with that fabric. I have done some projects from your book "Sew Wild" and I love them. Thanks for a terrific giveaway. Happy birthday as well!

I have been stimulated by your art and your blog and the sharing of your creative journey. I've been telling my art friends about you. I'm experimenting with acrylics and glazes to do a series of small Plein air paintings as well as some large, layered, bright abstract florals. I am interested in learning more about glazing and combining colors to creat bold effects. I think that doing more than one technique feeds creativity and there is carryover from one approach to another.

I'd also love to do art journaling. I'm an empty nester and want to get back to some creativity, which makes me so incredibly happy. Winning this would be life changing.

Hope you had a great birthday week and have an even better year.
I'd like to learn more about...pretty much everything! So many creative things to try and so little time. Thanks for saving us some of that time by sharing what you've learned. Long may your muse be with you <3

Unknown said...

Wow! Good for you, that's wonderful to read :) Thanks for sharing, hopefully your words will help others to realise that art isn't this exclusive club that you have to have belonged to since a child. I read about a lady who started writing in her 60's and everyone told her she'd never get published. Now she's a best selling author...it's never too late to let creativity into your life and even though we can't all be JK Rowling or Bansky or whoever the rewards are still so so worth it. Just like you've recently discovered, it has such healing powers... Hope you have masses of fun at ceramics school.

Fabulous giveaway. I too make a visit here as part of my daily routine and have taken several of your classes. I am always delving into something new so I am thinking to really exploring a technique, learning all about it. Going as deep into the process as possible. Color mixing is something I would really love to learn, yes I know the basics but always struggle with face tones.
