«Oldest ‹Older 401 – 477 of 477My dad used to read me and my sister fairy tales almost every night (sometimes we'd pick another book or ask him to tell us a story from when he was little, let's just say he'd be a bit 'creative' with the truth...) and one of my favourites was the a Grimm one about a king who would eat a small bit of white snake every day so he could understand the animals. It would fascinate me and creep me out at the same time...
Thank you for this opportunity. My favorite story is Peter Pan. I saw the Disney film when he was 5 years old and also thought to grow was very boring. I liked to think that I could also fly to elsewhere in the world. It seemed so easy! Now I have grown but once in a while I like to leave the country of imagination and ingenuity. See life through different eyes!
My favorite was probably Rapunzle. I would love to take this class!
My favorite fairy tale was "The Twelve Dancing Princesses." I loved to picture thrm all in different color dresses.
Oh my stinkin goodness!! I JUST discovered YOU!! You are AHHHHH-mazing!! Have looked at everything and already signed up for a class!! I couldn't afford two and Whimsy Was the other one I wanted sooooooo badly to take!
My favorite fairy tale was Snow White. I thought she was sooooo beautiful! Her skin like porcelain. Loved her so much I remember begging my mom to dye my blonde hair black. Uh..that never happened. I just thought she was beautiful and I was enamored by the love story in which the "kiss" would awaken her.
Thanks for the chance at such an awesome giveaway!!
Thanks for the chance to win. I was always entranced by Little Red Riding Hood, in the book we had they cut the wolf's stomach open to get Granny back out - which is pretty gross when you think about it!
I loved so many of Hans Christian Anderson's tales, but I think the 12 Princesses was my favorite!
Wow! What a hard question! Fairy tales seems like so long ago... I loved the Princess and the Pea because it was so funny how particular she was. And as for books, I loved The Secret Garden - the idea of having a special place to retreat to that nobody knows about and even a special friend that you can meet there without worrying about how society sees your friendship. And I still want a window seat for reading books like the main character had...
I would so love to take one of your classes. I need more creativity and art in my life!
Alison
(Japan, but originally from BC)
"Little Red Riding Hood" I can still remember my Mom and Dad reading it to me over and over again.....even though it was a little scarey.... fingers crossed to win a spot in your class...your work is amazing and enjoy reading your posts....thanks for sharing your art with us.....
The Little Princess was a tale that stuck with me for a long, long time, and I even read it from time to time as an adult. Thank you for the class giveaway!
I just found your blog as a link from another blogger who reviewed your Sew Wild book. I was intrigued and popped over here and found this opportunity! I LOVE your into the mist photos from today (Tuesday), so magical and haunting. Any way, about the Fairytales and folk tales... Oh my! As far as from childhood, meh, I don't know, off the top of my head I can not say. From my life now, the are just too many!
La Calevera (godmother Death) is a fave, as are Vassalisa and Baba Yaga, Sadko of Novgorod, two Kinds of Luck, Truth cloaked in Story, and I love so many of the ones mentioned above by others. I love wisdom tales and humorous tales most of all. And I LOVE the retellings by Clarrisa Pinkola Estes (complete with Jumgian analysis) and Jane Yolen!
Have a brilliant day!

Alice in Wonderland and Mary Poppins-- full of whimsy and favorties of mine. Thanks for opportunity to win a spot in your new class. how cool is a class in whimsy ???
Does The Wizard of Oz count? I watched it every day, had the dress, ruby red slippers, Toto, a basket to carry him in and even to dolls! LOL
Peter Pan and the Neverending Story. :)
The Match Girl....it's a Hans Christian Anderson tale. Although it's a sad tale, it had a flavor of hope that I could note even as a little girl. Hope I win!
What a wonderful giveaway! I loved Snow White and Rose Red when I was growing up.
I would like to win. My favorite childhood story is "Caperucita Roja" or "Little Red Riding Hood." My mom would read it to us when we were kids and she played the best wolf. :)
The Match Girl, a Hans Christian Anderson tale. It was a sad story, but as a girl I saw the hope in it.
Oh Alisa
I love all your courses...And now Whimsy...well I'd love to be part of this magical and enchanted course. My favourite fairytale since childhood is and will probably always be Little Red Riding Hood. It's timeless for me!
laurie
I would love to win a place. My favourite books when I was very young were the Frances stories like Bread and jam for Frances and all Dr Seuss books
I love all the tales from the Serendipity series. So creative and beautifully illustrated with a "life lesson" attached to each one. Very whimsical and wonderful! Thanks! Kaitee
My favourite was Pippi Longstocking.
My favorite tales were the ugly duckly and the wolf and the seven youg goats... as an adult I have understood that both hold powerful messages about my childhood and my true self
Thanks for the opportunity
Oh, I hope I'll be lucky enough to win. When I was a child, my favourite story was a story where a little boy dreamed his bed ( an old wooden one, coming from his grand mother) is a boat. Every night, he went for adventures. He faced some storms. And one night, his bed-boat sunk. His parents bought a new one, in plastic or in fake wood. And he never dreamed again of maritime adventures. It's a very nice story on how you grow up...
Would love to win a spot in your class, how fun this looks.
I didn't watch/read fairytales growing up. When I had my children, we read EVERYTHING and The Little Mermaid is my favorite.
Thanks Alisa!!
Favorite memory: to sew little things in mom's sewing room, creating in my own way together with her.
Hi Alisa, My favorite when I was little was The Elves and the Shoemaker. But I think it was the beautiful pictures in the book I had. I always was trying to draw the pictures.
Peace
Growing up in Hawaii we were told stories about "menehunes", little Hawaiian mischievous imps, who inhabited our islands. When something went missing, we blamed the Menehunes, when you heard a strange sound, it must be the Menehunes! Men-ah-hoo-knees is how to pronounce the word. Haven't thought about our Menehunes in a long time...making me smile as I write this. Hoping for a space in your class. Maybe the Menehunes will help you choose me! Susan
Alice in Wonderland- there is *so* much possibility in that story, it blows my mind!
I spent many an hour with Anne of Green Gables. Live that book!
My favorite was Snow White! Must be because I love the dwarves! :)
My favourite fairytale has to be Peter Pan - there are a lot of us adults who really don't want to grow up!
Wendy
Class looks awesome. I just finished Larger than Life and LOVED IT! Want more more more! I dont have one favorite fairy tale...I was obsessed with anything Grimm Brothers. And I used to devour any book I could get my hands on about Greek and Roman mythology when I was about 11.
I would love to take part in Whimsy and wonder!!
My favourite story was The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. Love everything by him :)

My favorite story was the "Jolly Barnyard". My family nearly wore the book out!
I loved Little Red Riding Hood.
That would have to be The Princess and the Pea. I always loved to imagine I was that special Princess who could feel that little pea underneath all twenty mattresses.
I remember listening to the Disney versions of "Jack and the Beanstalk" and "It's a Small World" on my little record player. They were those books that "dinged" to tell you when to turn the page. Good memories!
When I was a little girl I had an imaginary friend named Johnnie (though I am still not entirely convinced he was a figment of my imagination). We told each other stories all the time. Sometimes Johnnie would act out one of the naughtier stories, but of course it was never him that was punished for the consequences!
I grew up with stories of leprechauns, and I still believe in them.
My favorite fairy tale was Tarzan. I loved how a classic young woman could fall in love with a pure stranger, almost an animal, like this big monkey man. Aaawww :)
My favorite was the 12 Dancing Princesses. I had a book that I would look at over and over. I loved their dresses and liked to imagine sneeking away in the night to go dance in the woods with them. Very magical
Cinderella was my favorite-maybe because of the tv version in the 60's and my aunt dressing me up as "cinderella"
Winnie the Pooh, hands down. I even practised my reading when I was five by reciting The Hundred Acre Wood into a newfangled tape recorder we'd just purchased. :)
I grew up on a farm... and we had daily & nightly chores. One cold winter night when I climbed up into the hay loft to get hay; there was the most beautiful large eyed, white barn owl sitting on a beam starring at me. I was scared and in awe, because I had never seen one before --- especially that close up. Well. Fast forward to the present: last summer, while I was working in my canyon --- I surprised a barn owl that was nesting in a giant canary palm tree. The barn owl took flight... & I watched its majestic beauty elude me; but it also took me back to that moment as a child when I was able to look into its eyes and really see how incredibly perfect it was --- and I knew that there was an important message for me in this moment.
wow, i would absolutely love to learn from you!!!
will keep my fingers crossed, There are 450 comments here, unreal!!!
Wowww what fantastic on-line class!! My favorite story was "Biancaneve e i sette nani" but i don't know the English name :-(
My favorite tales were Winnie Pooh & Christopher Robin and the Three Little Pigs. I used to listen to them on LPs XD Saludos de México.
Looks like such a fun class. I think my fairy tale would be Littler Mermaid because I loved the music so much. Jane S
princess and the pea - love the image of all the stacked quilts.
This is amazing. My favorite story from childhood is a little princess. I still love to read it as an adult
My favorite story from childhood was the Lone Ranger. Horses were my dream animals.
Would have to say: Beauty and The Beast because it is one of few where a female's choice actually matters.
Awesome giveaway!
Keeping fingers crossed.
Happy Weekend.
Rapunzel for sure. Being the daughter of a hairdresser who loved to practice on me, I longed for long hair. What a wonderful looking class!
Rapunzel. My mother was a hairdresser and she was always practicing on me. I really longed for long hair
I love the princess and the pea -- I am currently taking this whimsy and wonder class and it is great -- have taken several of your online classes (wish I could come in person -- maybe someday) and enjoy your blog posts -- you are a true inspiration to me -- hope I win --
Love your art, photography and your unique creative voice...and would love to win! My favorite fairy tale was The Wizard of Oz..is it considered a fairy tale..not quite sure..but that was and still is mine!
This class looks wonderful!
What I loved most doesn't really fit into the fairytale label, but I was crazy for my daddy's tales about cowboys and Indians. Indians were the good ones and cowboys were the bad guys!
Looks like a fantastic class! I was not much of a fairy tale girl, but I adored the Anne of Green Gables stories - so much scope for imagination :-)
I loved the fairy tale 'the snow queen'. And your new class sounds great!
Madeleine!
I love your work. You are an inspiration. Favorite story is Dr. Seuss, Are you my mother?
The Princess and the Pea - I just loved the illustrations in my copy. This class seems like exactly what I need to increase my whimsical creativity, which is what I love. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to win this class!
My favourite is the tale of Whuppity Stoorie - it's like a Scottish equivalent of Rumpelstiltskin.
Babar the elephant. Had a couple of books that I treasured. We didn't have much but my parents always made sure i got at least one book for my birthday. Recently saw some Babar stuff at Target $ section and it made me so happy I bought some.
As a kid I loved with a passion two volumes of stories. One was an old book with the stories of the Grimm brothers. It was read so much it needed to be binded again. It got lost, unfortunatelly when the house had to be emptied but I vividly remember the green thick cover and the thick brownish pages. The other book was a newer print of the 101 Arabian Nights. While the old volume of the Grimm brothers made my fingers dance while reading, this one was small and soft, quite fluffy. I miss them. I think I will look for them. Thanks for reminding me.
oh wouaw...a new class...i would like to take it because I have a new grand daughter in my life since one year and i would like to learn how to create so nice drawing like you do..don't have your talent but i will try very hard...THANK you...
My fave fairy tale growing up was the Vietnamese Cinderella: Tam & Cam. kimstoys at gmail dot com
I loved the story of Snow White and Rose Red growing up. My cousin and I had their coloring and we would pretend we were those characters. Love your blog!
I was about to say something on this topic. But now i can see that everything on this topic is very amazing and mind blowing, so i have nothing to say here. I am just going through all the topics and being appreciated. Thanks for sharing.
