for the love of feathers

IMG_9318
Today during my morning walk on the beach I couldn't resist collecting feathers- but not the pretty ones- instead I collected all the weathered and worn feathers that were full of texture and interest.

These closeup shots are so cool! Where do you find feathers like these?

I don't know if you want to clean the feathers and make them smooth again, but if you want to (and it would help against detoriation also) dip them in white spirit, completely cover them, and let them dry as is. Then you can stroke the feathers to a whole again.
I don't know if this makes any sense :) it is 4 a.m. here and I am tired but not sleepy :)

I'm LOVING your feather!!! And interestingly, my 1st sketch right after I finish your sketchbook class and color theory class was also of black/gray feather against blue background.

If I might say great minds think alike! ;)

(I too am crazy about feathers!)

I *love* the fifth picture up from the top! The way the feather resembles ocean waves is superb!

Wow! You sure make these feathers look beautiful! Next time I see feathers on the ground, I will be sure to pick it up and find the beauty in it!

Those are STUNNING feathers! There is much beauty in "imperfect" things. I've had people ask me if a very pure crystal "works better" than a banged up one with all sorts of chips. No...the molecular structure is still perfect. I hadn't though about that in reference to feathers.
Another personal paradigm shift!

Thank you for making me look closer at "damaged" feathers. There's some very interesting stuff going on here! :-)

I posted two of your beautiful feather photographs on my personal inspiration tumblr, with a source link, but I can remove them if you wish: http://walljar.tumblr.com/

You have a lovely blog, by the way! Thank you for sharing your beautiful sea finds. <3

Confession: I have an insanely unbalanced fear of "wild" bird feathers. This is ridiculous coming form the woman who has a pet bird right? I can explain. When I was a kid my mom would FREAK OUT if I touched bird feathers. She said they were all diseased and that I was going to die. So, now I'm afraid of them. Please don't get a disease and die OK?
