It's been a while since I've posted an update about the goings on over here so today I've put together a few things that need to be shared!
First I am honored to be featured (and on the cover) in the fall 2014 Cloth Paper Scissors Studios magazine! I talk all about juggling my business, art and family. These types of opportunities are always really fun and super humbling- I still pinch myself thinking is this real?!? Included in this issue are some amazing artists like Leslie Riley, Damon Robinson, Jennifer Paganello, Pauline Lim and more! For info on this issue or to purchase your own copy head on over HERE.
I am finishing up my latest online class- Redefine Creativity. I have been filming and creating classes back to back for the last 9 months and I will be taking a little break to plan and create more classes for the beginning of the new year (I've got some fun stuff up my sleeve). But for now I need a little break this fall to actually get into the studio to do what I love most- making art and craft.
This means I will have more time to create more fun goodies for the shop (I've got some cool stuff coming soon!) so stay tuned- in the next couple of weeks I will be announcing when new batches of pouches (accessories and more) will hit the shop.
And last, I am SUPER excited to announce that I will be teaching for Life Book 2015! Life Book 2015 is a year- long online course featuring 26 different teachers with 26 different perspectives on the creative process. Life Book is packed with lessons, inspiration and a vibrant community of artists from all over the world.
Registration opens on October 6th and the course begins on January 1st, 2015 and today I am giving away one FREE SPOT!
To enter, leave me a comment below tell me one thing (anything) creative that you are interested in learning or want to try!
I will randomly select a winner and announce on the blog on Saturday.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 400 of 486 Newer› Newest»Honestly the thing I would love to learn is drawing/painting accurate (or at least fairly neat looking!) representations of things for my art. I stick to abstract because I have such a lack of confidence in that area. Crossing just about every appendage that I might scoop a place on LB 2015!
:o)
Fab news on.the magazine love the photo too. Love your creations I would love to win a place as being a mum, wife and student I have very little opportunities to take part in something soooo awesome :D
I would love to try my hand at sculpting clay. Not sure why. It just seems to be calling me.
Congratulations on being in Studios Magazine! I would like to learn about how to find/listen to my own voice. Thanks for the opportunity to win! (skaetzer (at) sbcglobal.net)
Wanna become more comfy with different techniques
This sounds amazing! I would like to get more comfortable with paint and abstract art. I feel like I sometimes limit myself because I'm a perfectionist.
Learn to use my gelatin plate to the fullest!
I want am interested in learning more about abstract art.
I would like to get back to painting and drawing in a daily art journal. Thanks for the chance to win a spot in the workshop. I'm excited that you are included this time around!
I love your cover photo!
Taking care of my 3 little kiddos for the past 5 years has taken up most of my time, I would love to get back into the creative side of me! Learning how to paint in layers is what I'm most intrigued by! I would like to take what I learn from lifebook 2015 and use it on re-purposing or renewing an old piece of furniture.
I'm really a fiber girl at heart, but I keep inching towards painting.
I would love to learn and practice more with Pan Pastels :)
How to layer a great background for a mixed media piece.
I's like to paint BIG with BIG brushes and BIG cans of paint. BIG is wall sized but I'd be happy to start with a metre square. :)
Congrats on the cover!!!! I bought a copy the other day and can't wait to read it!!!! :) I would love to continue to learn how to find my own artistic style! I feel it is a journey we continue to walk every single day!
I think I would learn everything, but maybe I would learn mixed media, because mixed media is a lot of difference, I think....
Very nice giveaway! Wow! I'd love to know more about pan pastels...
I want to learn how to sew and to think outside the box on how to incorporate sewing into projects - or to make clothes for my daughter!
I would like to learn hiw to put all the elements together in a balanced composition
This is such an amazing opportunity. As someone that's very new to art journaling including printing, stamping and even drawing (I've always sewn and love photography) this would be a chance for me to hone a range of new skills - not just one in particuar - I want to learn everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd enjoy learning to draw, paint and shade faces using.... ? whatever medium I'm taught since I'm a beginner. So glad you will be part of Lifebook 2015.
I'm wanting to learn more about hand lettering.
I love making beaded or crocheted bracelets and have been wanting to try working with leather.
hello, i am open to everything, because my arty skills are weak.. i would learn everything.. prints maybe.. just using how to using different materials.. thank you for this opportunity.. congratulation for your magazine coveer. hura ;)
I don't think I'll win it, I never win at this stuff, but better to try than not to. :) I'd love to find the style that it's the most suitable to me. That's why I'd love to try anything new.
So fun!!! I've always wanted to try my hand at large media pieces! I love abstract art, and the bigger the better!
Hi! I recognized you right off from the magazine cover!! How cool is that? I want to learn how to make screens for printing (like Thermofax style), make transfer images that I can make work (mine are atrocious!!!) & basically, how to use new techniques in what I make. Thanks for a chance to win!!! Marcie Aspras maspras@hotmail.com
I am very interested in Gelli Printing. I am amazed at the pieces I see on facebook, in magazines and online. I always loved print making in college and it looks like fun.
Would love to learn watercolors, thank your for the wonderful opportunity to win Lifebook 2015
I can't see that my comment went through :( so I'm trying again. I would love to just paint with all varieties of paints and have fun!
I would love to learn hand lettering and become more confident in my doodling skills :")
Awesome Awesome Awesome and Congratulations for the magazine. Such a great course to give away. I would like to win a spot because I am about 2 years into mixed media on a very stricken budget and would absolutely adore to be in the company of such amazing women. I'd love to expand on girl faces and painting them. Good luck to all! Thanks♡Bella
I would love to learn more about setting up a successful creative business so I can quit my day job.
Congratulations!!! :) I'm so interested in textile printing.
Bárbara, from Portugal
I would love to paint large....really large!
Thanks for the chance to win a spot in LifeBook!
I feel less confident in my ability to layer in mixed media art than I would like. NinaC (my work won't let me publish on google and I don't have the other ones)
I want to be more fluid in my choices for what I do next instead of stalling and second guessing my decisions. I don't want to stiffen my creativity by engaging in that inner critique monologue.
Not sure if my comment went through-
I'd love to win this spot!! Loved Lifebook the first year!!
I want to learn how to do faces - with paint and other media!
Congratulations on the magazine cover/article!!! I would love to learn more about adding texture to my paintings. Thank yo
I would love to learn how to use more mediums and how to use them together.
Hi Alisa, Congratulations on the cover!! And, also on being an instructor for LB15. I would love to learn more mixed media techniques, art journaling techniques and MOST of all your secret to juggling your art business, family & art time!! I thank you for this opportunity to win a spot in LB15 and it would make an AWESOME Birthday present for me as my birthday is in a few days!!!!!!!!!! {fingers & toes crossed!!} I'm going to have to pick up a copy of Studio magazine. Cheers!!
Block printing on fabric.
Oh there is so much i'd love to learn from you. I love your wall murals. Most of all I'd love to come to one of your workshops. Hoping you offer more 3 day workshops next year. It's too far to travel for less than 3 days.
I am really, really want to learn more about altered couture, changing existing clothing into something grand and beautiful!! I am in love with textile art!
I would love to learn more about combining all of the mediums I use into one piece that looks less pre-k and more adult.
I have experimented with so many different ways of expressing my creativity but one thing I have actually never done but have always wanted to try is to make sculptures, expecially out of found/disgarded items (trash, basically), chicken wire etc. I always thought it would be an interesting challenge to create a story that way and make something beautiful out of something ugly or unflattering. It seems a little daunting though. Maybe some day :)
Hi, Alisa! I would love to learn how to go bigger, brighter, and bolder!
This looks amazing and more than anything I want to create a canvas I can proudly hang on the wall! Thanks.
Lynn
I'd love to be in Lifebook 2015 too. LB 2014 is great - and when I see all these wonderful colors and bold lines on your website, Id love to join. Congrats on the article too!
Great you are teaching in life book 2015. I found art journalling after my husband died last year just before my 40th birthday. I love it, journalling has given my life purpose again. So difficult to choose only one thing I would like to learn - there are so many! I would like to learn to incorporate more texture/layers into my art, sometimes it feels a little too flat for my liking.
I could more easily name 1001 things I want to learn than one. I want to know everything!
always room to learn new things ! count me in !
Congratulations! was in B&N earlier today and saw the CPS issue with your pic on the cover. just had to grab it.
i would like to learn more about layering using different media, e.g., which media will cover other media, when to use opaque vs translucent and doing free-form layering without using stencils.
At the moment I am totally obsessed learning about process. It is the most intriguing thing to see the process that an artist takes to get to their end result. Can't wait for LB2015!!
I would like to learn more about hand writing and lettering. Thanks for this opportunity and fingers crossed!
Hi Alisa, I really want to learn how to embed artful lettering into water colour paintings and make it look inspiring to others :) Love the blog hop and LB 2015!! cheers from Berlin* Konstanze
Congrats on the Magazine cover Alisa. :) The one big thing that I need to try is to just let my artwork be what it is, instead of being so critical and gessoing over it too soon. I know it isn't a technique as such, but it is something that I really need to work on. I would love to win a spot on Life Book 2015, so thanks for giving us this opportunity. :)
I would love to learn more about graffiti chic or the art of abstraction.I like very much your website and
congratulations on the magazine article!
much love from beautiful Greece
Maria
Love your work so much. I would very much like to have lessons using coloured pencils in mixed media work. Thank you so much.
I am really interested in learning more about what can be done with watercolours.
I want to learn to draw or at least learn to appreciate the little "doodles" I make in my art journal. Life Book 2015 has an awesome lineup of Artists! Thanks for the opportunity to win a spot in this class!!!
I would love to win!!! Love Life Book!
I would like to learn to paint reasonably realistic-looking hair.
I would love to try encaustic art - definitely an "art goal" of mine! I'd also love to go wild on a larger scale (if only space and money weren't an issue).
I have gotten good at capturing in photographs what my eye sees...I'm feeling pulled to play with video, but am a bit terrified of it and haven't yet figured out where to start...
it's tough to pick one thing I'd like to learn more of, but maybe how to paint bolder, more fearlessly. I like to be too controlling in my art, and it would be fun to just let go.
Thanks for a chance to win!
I would love to learn to draw, I am more of a doodler, I believe by participating in LB2015 I will learn so much. Thank you for participating in this journey.
I LOVE mixed media, but I'd like to learn different techniques. I know the basics, ie: paper, paints, gesso, etc. and explore the human figure/ faces mostly, I'm at a loss when it comes to that. Flowers no problem, but faces is an obstacle for me. I'm really hoping that I have the opportunity to be apart of the Life Book 2015, to face new challenges and unleash my creativity.
I would love to learn to come out of the box more with color!
Wow, Life Book 2015 looks like lots of fun! I would love to learn how to express more meaning in my art journal pages...
Something I have been wanting to try?! Definitely would be screen printing OR Wood carved prints. I love prints, and these both are something i want to try but haven't taken the time to do! :( Someday! Thanks for the chance at a free spot!!
I can't pick just one, so my answer is...
I want to learn all the stuffs!
I would like to learn more about fun lettering. Lifebook 2014 has been a blast. Many thanks for an opportunity to win Lifebook 2015
One creative thing that I am interested in learning....just one? Or a few...

I am a newbie to mixed media and would love to learn how to use the supplies that I have been collecting all year! I'm DYING to be part of Life book 2015 and hope I can win a spot in it!
Congratulations to you being on the cover of Cloth Paper Scissors mag!
I'd really like to try a big canvas, but I'm too scared!
I would love to get better at using watercolors. They are so portable and beautiful, but I typically make a mess of them. :)
I really want to try abstract art - I usually head towards realism and want to break away from that.
I am really glad that you are doing Lifebook 2015. Congrats on the magazine cover and thanks for the giveaway. I would like to learn more about sketching and watercolor.
I would love to learn to paint on fabric
I want to learn how to paint those amazing flowers you frequently paint!
My biggest goal is to learn to call myself an artist. I know it might be easy for a lot of people, but for me, it always comes down to not knowing enough, not doing enough and I dont know how to call myself an artist without feelling like I did something only big, important, master type people do. I would looooove to learn to claim that title and make it my own like a second skin!
I just want to learn new ideas for art journaling and use of different products and techniques that I can't even imagine right now!
I would like to loosen up in my painting and learning new techniques helps so much. Thank you for the chance to win a spot. I can't wait to see all the fun in LB 2015!
Really, just one! I'd really love to learn how to not get overwhelmed with all the possibilities in mixed media, so much to be excited about!
I'd love to win a spot for Lifebook2015! I'd also like to learn to get more comfortable with colors that I hardly touch. I always default back to my favorites and I love the work others do with other colors but I tend not to.
I love bookbinding, journaling and print making and, really, just love the inspiration. This is an awesome giveaway. Right now, a friend and I are deciding which one of your classes we want to take together. Most of all I would love to come out to a class in your studio- that's actually a bucket list item for me. I have visited your part of the world and was totally enchanted! We drove the coast. from Pacific City Bch to Seaside, so I do love hearing your adventure stories :-)
I'd love to learn to add creative time into my everyday, like you do so well! Painting, watercolours, making things for my home with sayings to inspire... I am a total beginner, but really want to start!
There are two things I would love to learn. 1) How to use gold leafing in my art. And 2) How to make my own stretch canvas's using recycled denim material. I am loving life Book 2014 and would love a chance to win a spot in Life Book 2015. Then I could buy more art supplies
I would love to learn to be more confident creating in mixed media. Congrats on the article and thanks for the chance to win!
would love to learn how to use a gelli plate
I would love more than anything to break through the block that keeps me from having a daily or at least weekly art practice. Once i start, I'm OK, i just have trouble getting started. Too many ideas on my head at one time, not knowing where to start. If i had to pick a technique it would be watercolors though. Thanks for sharing your art and a chance in the class.
I would like to know more about watercolors. I have taken one of your classes that you touched on watercolor. I need to take the watercolor one. I would also like to know what type of watercolor paints are going to give me good use of the medium and what brand of brushes to buy. Thanks for the chance on getting a slot in Lifebook 2015.
This is awesome. Congrats and thank you!!!! I would love to be able to draw faces, realistic or stylized. I've always wanted to be able to just create a character from my imagination.
I would love to learn to make my paint colors more vibrant as you use some vivid and beautiful colors. I love, love, love pen and ink, the black and white that you draw and love how you bring a bit of color into the black and white. I am taking lifebook 2014 this year and excited about signing up for next year. If I were to win a spot , I will give it to a friend that I have met at a local restaurant, that has such talent, but no able to pay to take classes. I have seen her sketches when I go in there and it would be so wonderful
for her to be able to take this year long class and grow her talents. thanks for the opportunity to win and I am super excited to take your lesson next year!!

Just started working with watercolor, and love the flowing pastels, just seem to get them too dark when I try...practice, practice,practice...

I'd like to learn more about pastels, I played with them in a school a little, but some of the work I've seen done with them is amazing and I want to understand them better
I LOVE your style and would love to be fearless in my creations. I will be happy to learn more about painting on fabric and sewing on top of it.
I’m a new mom and I need to take some time for myself. I put everything on hold for the baby but my goal for 2015 is to create more.
Thank you for the opportunity to win a free access to that amazing class!
I've been wanting to try screen printing on clothes or fabric.
Can't wait to read your article!

Congratulations! On an art level I would love to learn more about how to paint acrylic paints on fabric. i've never tried encaustic painting...it looks so fun and amazing, but i'm not sure where to start. :)
I would love to learn different painting techniques! paint on paper or tissue.
how to use different acrylic mediums- gels, pastes
Happy to see you on the teaching list for 2015. Trying to pick one thing I'd like to learn is hard. There is so much, I guess the biggest thing is to learn not to be so critical of my work. I have only been on this Art journey for 2 yrs, prior to that I couldn't draw a stick figure. I really need to let go, relax, stop over thinking every line and learn to love the mistakes as well as the stuff that turns out the way I planned. I have learned tons of great techniques through Life Book from amazing and wonderful Artists winning a spot for next year would be awesome. Thanks for the opportunity.
Wow, this would be so incredible to win as I wouldn't have the means to pay for the course. So generous of you, thank you!
I would love to learn how to use more fibers, other materials. Maybe how to use them in art with paint, etc.
I've always wanted to learn how to weld. I'm fascinated by metal works and have some great ideas for large recycled art projects but no experience what so ever in welding. I would love to learn and create what's inside my head :)

The top three things I want to learn currently are bobbin lace making (for using in fiber art and mixed media pieces), weaving, and Brazilian embroidery.
I'd love to try vinyl image transfers (or use wax paper like I've seen on Pinterest). Adds depth to pieces. Thank you!!
I would really like to learn how to make art a daily habit and balance the need to do's with the want to do's. I also want to learn nuno felting.
There are so many things I'd love to learn/try... Probably 3d stuff, working with clay I think. That said, i'd also love to try out embroidery. Even just thinking about it makes me feel all tangled!
I would be "over the moon and back" to be chosen to be a part of your colorific world!
I would love to learn to think outside the box and create unique artwork of my own instead of just copying others.

Messy play with a sewing machine!
To paint with abandon....layering colors to create images that appear to pop off the surface from across the room.
I would really like to be more confident with colour, drawing faces and lettering, these three areas are the places where i really struggle. Hopeful that a place on Life Book 2015 will help me to learn how to move forward and explore and have fun in these areas.
Thank you for the opportunity to win a place :-) xxx
I would like to learn some new ways of funnelling my creativity. Thanks Alisa, you are an inspiration!
I would love to learn more about Alcohol Inks! Thanks so much for the great giveaway! What a great line-up of artists involved in Life Book! I can dream!
WOW there is no way I will be able to win a seat in the class - so many people already know what a great thing Life Book is. What I would love to see are useful things for my home like a remote holder that hangs from my chair holding phone, remote, pencil and note paper. Also a similar hanger for my bed to hold remote and tissue (Hallmark channel late at night!).
I would love to try encaustic painting someday soon.
I'd love to be more comfortable playing with watercolors.

One thing I want to learn - finding my "own style" in mixed-media, beacuse I love to do so many different things.
I want to try living somewhere lush and beautiful where I could spend my days inspired by the environment, sketching and painting outside, and taking the occassional nap in the sunshine while listening to birds sing.
I would like to learn to used multiple mediums in one project
Love following your blog and learning your graphic style! Always interested in learning how to take inspirations & turn them into art
I would really, really love to lean more about water color.
Congrats on the cover and article - I will need to get a copy of that issue! Thanks for the chance to win! I'd like to learn more about using acrylics.
Im so new to all these wonderful artistic, creative ways of making "ART" come to life.....! I would love to learn more with this great opportunity, thank you <3
I am always wanting to learn new ways to do transfers............
So excited you'll be teaching for LifeBook 2015. I am participating this year...so much fun! I would love to learn creative lettering techniques. I struggle with lettering in my journals and my larger work.
Thanks Alisa!
