Since Lucy arrived, I've had to get familiar with the whole baby clothing world and I must say there is not much out there that is wild, crazy, funky and NOT PINK (at least in my budget). While I do like pink, I've wanted to have different options for my little gal- I mean she is the daughter some funky parents! So recently I purchased some simple cotton baby pants and collected simple materials and fabric paint and went to town creating a handful of funky baby pants.
I used dimensional paint (puff paint) (you know how I love my dimensional paint) and I scribbled on one side of the pants and folded them over to create a print.
Bubble wrap is the BEST! I cut it into strips and used it as a stamp. I then added a few messy brush strokes.
I used a piece of craft foam cut into a circle to create polka dots, I used a toilet paper roll to add more circles and then added a few circles with q-tips.
I used stamps that I made from craft foam and stamped all over the surface of the pants.
I used shapes cut from craft foam, swipes of color with a brush and added little details with a black fabric marker.
A simple black heart painted with fabric paint.
I used Tulip Soft Fabric Paint for all projects- one of my favorite supplies to use when creating unique painted clothing projects!

market those immediately before someone steals your idea....I am serious.
WOW! Your ideas seem so simple when you show us how to apply them, but they have an absolutely BRILLIANT effect when we can see the results!
As a side comment, Lucy is absolutely lovely and one can easily see how she would fit in a modelling career for babies :)
So in love with these ideas. They're so cute and not the average "baby girl" clothing style...which is awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Absolutely LOVE these, Alisa! My cousin was just expressing similar baby pants woes the other day. I'm sending her your link. Awesome idea!

I love her little headband in the one photo too.
Just too adorable for words!! What a cool idea......you always come up with the most unique ways to use things! I love it!
she is the cutest! and the technique - awwwwwesome!
those are very cute! and i just love that baby girl! im always so excited when you show her off!!!!
i adore what you've done with lucy's clothes. she's precious. alisa, do you have to do something special to wash or dry these clothes? i painted some leggings the other day, & now i'm afraid to wear them.
Love these! They are so awesome and easy to do.
These are DANG cute. And super funky. Maybe I'll have to do something like this for my girl's 12 month photo shoot!
Those are so stinkin cute! They remind me of my pair of jeans I made in highschool in the eighties. I loved them! I bleached and painted them and everyone thought I was weird for wearing them! But I didn't care I wore them anyway! Wish I still had them!
You and Lucy are so sweet and funky and charming, Alisa! Absolutely wonderful.
I just can't get over how absolutely snugglewuggleprecious (I had to combine a bunch of words to express myself) lucy is! She's just perfect. Good job! and thank you so much for your updates about life with the fam. I love hearing how you are doing and it makes me super excited to get my own family started. Well you know one day. :)

Your baby is adorable! Great use of our fabric paint. Lucy is a fabulous muse and model.
Awesome job as always! This is so inspiring. I love all of the circles.
It's so nice to see new and unique clothing for babies like this. Babies love color. There isn't a lot of choices out there to add fun and color to a babies wardrobe and this does it! Open up a clothing line so that untalented people like me can purchase it :-)
I love love love!!! She is so lucky!!!!
Your daughter is beatuful! I wish that I had had you for inpriration when both of my kids (son and daughter) were little. I especially love her face in the photo of her wearing the geometric design pants. priceless!
LOVE your TOOT SWEET model!
Oh the pants are great too!
These are great! I too have a hard time finding affordable feminine yet not pink stuff for my baby girl. I love your creative solution.
I so see a clothing line coming to fruition! Wowsers! Love it and you are right there is not fun and funky that isn't overly priced! Love it all!
you have such fun and inspiring projects! adorable baby too. :)
Those ideas are fabulous. Kudos to you Alisa for such an innovative idea.
This entry made me smile Alisa.....l did the same thing 37 years ago for my children. Love your designsxxlynda
These are so cute. And she is such an angel! So darling!
this is my favorite post of yours ever!! love the variety. love the pants. and the model is really cute too!
There'd be a huge market for these! Stunningly done and wonderfully displayed - how lucky is she to have such creative parents!
You inspire me and your baby girl is adorable!
Those are wonderful, next you need to learn to sew. Those baby pants are so easy to stitch up.
Oh my gosh. Those are amazing! I especially love the first one. And her facial expressions! My goodness she's a character!

What a rockin' baby! She's so beautiful anyway, and now she can rock with the best of 'em. Adorable!!! Cynthia S.
amazing!!
thanks for the inspiration and ideas! I too am sick of pink (although we are making use of all the clothes we received as gifts but will definitely have this in mind when buying clothes for this Winter)
you ROCK Alisa... and your daughter is the sweetest model you could ever find:)
I will try this at home;)
i assume you are going to start a line of baby clothes. they are adorable. i remember when my girls were little, everything was pretty little pastels. everytime i saw something in a bold color i bought it.
You just revived my joie de vivre, Alisa Burke! I felt a little bored and dissapointed by offers on baby fashion, but now I feel like doing something creative and fun, just like you did :) I love your creations and I also feel good using Tulip for painting! And I've never imagined black color looking so good on a baby :) U rock!
These are simply awesome. I never would've thought to use those materials to make those designs. You are so creative!
That is the cutest model I have ever seen. I love those pants ideas. I believe there would be such a market for those.
W. :)
I remember feeling the same when my guy was little. Navy for boys! UGH! Do you know about Dharma trading? They have a plethora of baby/kids clothing that is PFD - all white blanks. I had a blast making tie-dye and stamped one-of-a-kinds.
Your creations are so ALISA!
a hesitant model, but so cute with your great fashions!
You have one unbelievably gorgeous baby!
Have a lovely baby and remaining creative, how wonderful for you! These techniques could be done for a child of any age. Thank you for being so open in your sharing!
ADORABLE!!!! What a lucky little girl xxx I haven't visited your blog for ages, and now you have had a baby in that time - big belated congrats to all your lovely family :)
I almost feel like having a baby on my own just because of Lucy's pictures :)
Have I told you yet that she's lovely? :)

Aww I love the polka dot and the colourful ones :D
I want to recreate a similar polka dot pattern in full sized trousers now. But knowing me it wont happen for a long time!
You are so right about baby girls clothing! I like pink just fine but don't want to dress my little one in frills and bows. Funky clothes are hard to find. Yours were just fab! May have to try it myself!
These are so fun! Especially love the polka dots!
The colourful patterns and the polka dots are really funky . very nice idea to gift your baby the funky baby clothes . you can create by own and have fun.

Any ideas for a baby boy print???
Some organic baby clothes may not be washable. However, Hatley and Emile et Rose are two designers that offer organic baby clothes and non-organic options that withstand many washings without fading or stretching. Because babies may spit up, they tend to go through many clothing changes at first.
Nice blog...
Thanks for sharing such wonderful blog with us.
FANTASTIC!!!
Love this.thank u for this awesome idea and tutorial
Cute! Do you do it on the back on the pants too?
You have some serious talent! These leggings are amazing I seriously can not pick a favorite one.
I never thought of using bubble wrap as a stamp, you are seriously innovative.
Thank you so much for sharing how you turn a plain pair of leggings into something completely funky !!
Absolutely beautiful! Just my kind of style because I'm sick of pink. How do you go about washing it and do you wash it after you have created it.
I really like how you have made these funky baby clothes. It looks so simple to create the stamps and make some ordinary baby leggings look cool and funky. I think my favorite would have to be the geometric one.
Awesome
beautiful pants i like it really
