My next online class starts June 6th and registration goes live today!
In my last online class- Sketchbook Delight I touched on using watercolors when sketching. I received so much feedback about working with watercolors that I decided to dedicate a class to methods, techniques, projects and inspiration with watercolors. (With my own unique, simple, messy spin of course!)
This online class will introduce you to everything you need to know about working with watercolors. From exploring a variety of simple supplies and tools (even how to create your own pigments) to learning all about traditional techniques and ways to break the rules, from mixing and layering color to dripping and splattering to creating compositions and discovering how to use watercolors in a variety of different projects to ultimately finding your own style.
If you enjoyed Sketchbook Delight and are looking to push it further with watercolors OR if you are new to using watercolors- this is the class for you!
In addition to launching registration today, I am also giving away three FREE spots in the class!

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 400 of 423 Newer› Newest»I am not very good with watercolors so painting anything is great practice.
i've always loved hardware stores and now i love sketching tools... don't ask me why?! my male side needing expression ;-)
Oh, this looks so beautiful! I'm new to painting and would love to learn everything about watercolours! I'd say my favourite subjects to paint are flowers (or just play around with colours... :-) )
i so hope i win!!!! i usually paint with acrylics so watercolor is a bit foreign to me so i would love a chance at it. my fav things to paint are textures, layers and layers of textures and words.
I don't have a favorite subject to paint. I've been getting more into creating from life instead of photos, so my inspiration comes from around me. This summer I will be documenting the growth of my first garden and it would be great to have instruction in different techniques.
I'd love a chance to win a place on your course, my favourite things to paint are flowers and landscapes.
Hi my favourite thing has to be enlarge flowers!
Wow, I'm now already looking forward to this class!
I would love to be able to paint the every day things I see around me.
i'm truly inspired by your watercolor sketches. i've never used watercolors but want to learn. If I could pick one subject it would have to be flowers.
Love faces and flowers. Thank you for your wonderful classes!
I love watercolours and at times I find them difficult! I hope your new online class will help me ease things! Please include me in your giveaway!AriadnefromGreece!

Favorite thing to paint: flowers! Love tulips!
I'm just starting to play with watercolours as part of a "creative sketchbooks" course so would love to take this class! At the moment I love painting birds and trees!
Thanks for the chance to win!
I’m not very original with my painted subjects – I still love flowers and landscapes at heart, but I do love to use watercolors for abstract backgrounds. Looking forward to this class – thanks for the opportunity!
I'm a beginner so I like to paint background pages in my journal with a light wash of water color over gesso. Thanks!
(?) Should one take the sketchbook class first??? I have been experimenting with watercolor since Melly Testa introduced me to them. I am smitten! I love to paint nature - birds, flowers, rocks - whatever my eyes focus on at that moment.
My dogs are my favorite subject...and also the subject I find most difficult. They just won't sit still!
I would love to learn how to watercolor paint. I have been playing with NeoColor II for the past month and had a great time. I love to paint Flowers and birds!
Thank you so much for your inspiring blog and for your generous offer to win a free spot in your lovely class. I love to paint the natural world, especially closeups of flowers!
Hi Alisa! I'm very excited about your upcoming watercolor class. I like to do fantasy faces, flora and fauna and whatever tickles my fancy. One day I hope to take your sketchbook class but I would love to do the watercolor one first. With everything blooming in the garden, flowers are my focus right now!
I'm a 'shapes'painting girl, see negative space before the object. No experience with watercolor, but long for the opportunity. Carmen
Subject matter isn't nearly as important as the thrill of paint meeting a surface. Any paint, any surface. But I do love painting clouds, and then maybe flowers.
I have never painted before but I have always wanted to. Your paintings are always so inspiring.
I love watercolours but am not confident using them. I would love to improve so that I can paint the plants in my garden.
I have worked with watercolors in the past, my favorite subject is florals - just cannot do landscapes
I also love to play with abstracts and geometrics. Your work is such fun - I would love to get into whimsy.
I love to paint flowers and trees. I would love to be able to paint other things, and I absolutely adore your style....it would be exciting to win your class!
Cindi
I don't know a thing about watercolors or painting but I use mine all the time in my art journals and mixed-media pieces.
So I guess my favorite thing to paint would be abstract backgrounds. I love how the colors interact - so inspiring and pleasing.
Thanks for the chance to win.
I haven't used watercolors in years, but I'd love to get back to them. I have begun sketching again, and my cats are my main subjects. A mouthy tonkinese and a sweet-faced British shorthair keep me busy.
Just got outdoors with my kids Friday for our nature walk and painted some flowers and leaves with them. We had great fun.
Love your site, it is so cheery!
I would love a spot! I am completely new to watercolor...unless the kind my kids play with in the plastic crayola box counts. ;) I'd love an introduction, though! My favorite images are natural life...and abstract.
I have always wanted to do watercolors - birds and botanicals would be my preference. I'd love to use this class as a jumping off point! Thanks :)
I usually paint backgrounds and love the interaction of watercolors with each other but I would really love to learn how to paint faces!
Adore your creative energy 8}
I love painting flowers fruit, veggies & people with watercolors! Thanks for this opportunity Alisa!
I love watercolors but have gotten away from them for acrylics but would like to pick them back up and continue our love affair. My favorite painting subjects are usually flowers and butterfly's.
Hi, Please pick me, I am in my middle 50s and know nothing about watercolors, I am just exploring what I can do, I just love birds, butterflies, flowers, just anything! Help me find, well, help me find me! I am on social security, so I cant afford any classes!!!!!
Like a lot of people birds and flowers are a favorite. I need to draw more from life rather than imagination and photographs. I would love to take your class.
My kids and I worked through "Watercolors for the Artistically Undiscovered" for our homeschool art class last year. It was so much fun! After that I painted several aquarium pictures. I really don't know what I'm doing, but it's really fun. Thanks for the chance!
My very most favorite medium is water color. I am not an artist or a painter but would so love to be able to paint flowers on the front of a note of Thanks to a friend. Maybe even paint my own Christmas cards. Just for fun and bring a little happiness into my life that is so full or worry's. I love all your doodles with all the bright colors. They make me smile. Would love to learn from you as we have something in common I too live in and love Oregon! jodywalunas@hotmail.com
i always seem to drawn flowers !
Would love to participate in your online class and learn about watercolors! I just play around now, having fun but no idea about technique :)
Would love to participate in your online class and learn about water colors!
I like drawing flowers. Now, I would love to learn how to paint them.
Birds and flowers have been a favorite subject of mine to paint lately...I'm ready for Spring!
Oh, I would LOVE to win a spot! I never got along very well with watercolor in high school, so I concentrated on oils instead, but your work makes it look so fun that I want to try it again. :)
My favorite subject to paint is sunsets/sunrises or anything else colorful since I feel deprived of color from working in pencil for so long.
I would prefer to use the watercolors as a sketching media, like you do. If I paint, it's usually color-based abstraction. I do mostly metalworking, and I think being able to sketch in the watercolor will allow me to achieve a sense of dimension in my sketching.
This may sound cliche, but I love to paint flowers. They make me so happy! I would probably venture out into other subjects if I was more familiar with watercolors, but they intimidate me. I would love to learn more!
Thrilled to hear you are running this class. My favorite things to paint are usually the food I am making for dinner.
I used to enjoy drawing and painting random shapes and swirls. Also, being a former Cali girl I love drawing items found on a beach. My favorite person to do this with is my ten year old daughter. We can sit quietly with each other for hours just doodling and creating art.
PPALACE@LIVE.COM

I love your blog- it is inspiring and a real treat for the eyes and heart.
I love to sketch anything from nature. It really makes you feel connected to that place and time when you draw and paint. Would love to add watercolor to that.

oops -- forgot my favorite subject to paint -- I love painting when I travel -- Italy being my favorite -- Tuscany area -- thanks again :0)
After reading your blog for a while, I got myself a set of watercolors, and ones for my 9 and 7 year olds as well! I love to paint landscapes, especially ones I get to travel to see! Most often I am painting abstracts while stealing minutes away from homeschooling and taking care of our 4 boys. I would love teh chance to take a classs for *me*!
I love watercolors but I'm not quite sure that they love me yet. They have been with me through all my travels. My favorite subject is whatever happens to be in front of me that will remind me of that day. I wanted to say flowers. However, flipping through my journals, that isn't really the case. My best answer is that it's whatever catches my eye.
I love the peeks into your journal. Your paintings are so beautiful. My favorite thing to paint is buildings.
People! I love to paint people!
I love to paint whatever is in front of me - often flowers or leaves and food.
I would love to join :) I like drawing anime/manga with watercolor&copic markers!

Ceren

My favourite sunject to paint just might be my big poodle- He is all white, is actually an imperial poodle (breeders use this term to describe a poodle that is basically a really big standard- and his name is Bear. He has the most expressive eyes, as well as very interesting feet.
I LOVED your Sketchbook Delight class!! Up until then, I hadn't had much success with watercolors. You really changed that for me. I can't wait for your new class so I can learn more! My favorite subject would probably be flowers.

OMG! I don't really know how to paint so I can't tell you what my favorite item is. I would love to learn so I'm giving this a shot!
Can't wait to see you at Inspired next week. Michele
Hello Alisa: my favourite "creations" are things that make people smile and happy. You make me smile and fill me with enthusiasm and I hope to pass this on to others.
I am a newcomer to your blog but I have been so inspired by it and it has really reawakened my desire to return to it, especially watercolor and sketching. I'd have to say my favorite things to paint are landscapes and still-life.
New class... yay! I loved the sketching class :) I have been sketching more regularly because I'm not so worried that every sketch or doodle has to be a work of art. My favorite subject to paint is nature... and I just got three new bamboo paint brushes today... so off to check them out!
I don't have a favorite thing because this would be my first watercolor experience. Enjoy visiting your blog.
getkoneckted@yahoo.com
I like the peeks inside your sketchbook and I really would like to be able to paint flowers.
I have to say, my favorite part of painting is when I put in splatters of little paint dots, and drips at the very end. It really seems complete when I give it the splatter or some spirals and little dots and dabs. Drip and splatter, nice colors...that's what I try for!
Jane
I just discover the beauty in using watercolors !!! Just gorgeous !
i like to paint horizons. i am just getting into watercolors, water crayons. i just found these cool watersoluble oil pastels.

I grew up on the East Coast shoreline and still have the boxes of shells and seaglass from countless beachcombings....I love to draw shells...crows and bamboo/willows...
Your concepts for classes are quite innovative and I love taking them on my own time...
I love your class! I can't wait for this one! I love to paint flowers the best because there is so much variety you can never go wrong.
I would love so much to be in your class! Even though I'm only thirteen, I love art so much and love watercolors the best. I like to paint landscapes and keys. I like keys because there are so many different ones out there and not one is the same, and the skeleton keys are the best.
I love watercolours, though I don't paint often enough. I'm still a bit scared of them. I mostly paint flowers and landscapes.
I'm just learning to sketch with watercolors and I would really love to take this class. Thanks for the opportunity to win a free seat! I like to paint flowers.
I love watercolors, but don't use them often enough. My favorite subject are flowers, but would like to branch out, and do more "everyday subjects".
Would love to win a spot in your class. Just beginning to use watercolors. Have you tried the Strathmore Visual Journal in 140 lb. watercolor paper in the 9-12?
I love it. JanisRae
ooo i am just getting into working with watercolors! this is exciting!!
my favorite thing to paint are flowers....
Well, I don't have a favorite subject to paint because I don't know how to paint. I do a lot of hand sketches for work because I'm an interior designer, but I'd love to learn more about watercolor.
I'm fairly new to painting and haven't experimented much with watercolor so this class would be right up my alley.
Don't really have a favorite subject to paint. I just like to play and have fun like a child. I am a sucker for birds, flowers, and bright colors.
I love the sound of your course and have seen so many recommendations for it on blogs that it has really got my attention. I don't do a lot of watercolour so this would help me get out of my comfort zone and take a giant leap.

I would LOVE to take your class!! My favorite thing to paint are palm trees! I love palm trees, with their simplistic trunks and crazy fronds, they are the best tree ever! But I need help, Alisa Burke to the rescue? :)
Jesse
A class like this would be really interesting, but I have no idea of my favorite things to paint, because I feel like I have no talent for painting whatsoever. I'd love to be proven wrong, but I've never been able to do anything in that realm.
I always thought watercolors were too difficult and not for me, until I through out all the "rules" two years ago and just use them my way. Since then I absolutely love them! My favorite subject? Don't really have one, probably trees, flowers, animals. I am lousy at portraits...
Thanks for the chance to win a free class!
I love messing about with watercolours and I mostly use them to paint my strange robots and machines...
I love to paint my child she is so beautiful.
Oh wow - I love to draw and paint nature! I am just getting back into it after a very long hiatus!

Thank you for the giveaway! I do not know how to watercolor, and sadly, when I try, it doesn't look great. So, a class would be wonderful. I love your blogs and love to see the sketchbooks. I appreciate how you tell people to just use what they have. I like watercolors/sketches of things that make me smile - cupcakes, flowers, nature, food! Thanks again
This class looks amazing! I enjoy painting flowers and all kinds of plant life.

I love the subject of houses! They reflect so much and it is fun to see where creative people live and how they spruce up their environment. This new class of yours sounds so fun and I am keeping my fingers crossed that I can one of the lucky ones. :)
I've never worked with watercolors, but I'm dying to! I've always associated them with flowers and such, but I love how you capture everyday items.
Hi Alisa, I have been visiting frequently and enjoy your painting, color, and designs and would like to take several of your classes. I enjoy drawing with pen and recently bought a Koi watercolor sketch box, so I could practice my favorite subject of birds. Here's hoping I get the chance to study with you. Thanks, Ambal
Following in the inspiration of Frieda, I painting self-portraits. After taking your Sketchbook Delight class, I have enjoyed capturing the "little things" around me.
My favorite subjects to paint are cartoons. I love how I can do what I want with watercolor and it looks nothing like traditional water paintings! They look fun and almost magical because you just might be surprised with what you end up with!
I'm working through sketchbook delight right now and loving it! It would be a dream to win another class, and I love watercolors. My favorite things to paint are things in nature... leaves, trees, flowers, feathers, mountains - anything I can find ouside!
I love watercolors but i'm so intimidated by their fluid properties... i need to just loosen up and go with the flow! I'm looking forward to this class!
I love to paint moments between people that are treasured...although, in my sketchbooks I paint just about everything...flowers, animals, people, objects. Whatever is in mysurrounding and reminds me of that day.
I've been thinking about trying my hand at watercolors. Great timing on the class. I think I'll join in the fun.
I love watercolors but i'm so intimidated by their fluid property... so much harder to control than acryllic paint (or it is for me!). I'm really looking forward to this class!

Watercolors are a wonderous medium. I love to paint words!
I don't really do a lot of painting. This class is just what I need. Love your blog and all you do.
I don't paint much - but I love the look of watercolours - I love to paint plants - so flowers, trees, and scenery to put them in. I think grass would be interesting to paint too.
I am petrified of watercolors! But I want to give them another try. I am determined to have fun with it. I am just finishing your sketchbook workshop so this is perfect timing! You have inspired me! Currently I love painting dogs with acrylics but I would love to let watercolors take me in a whole new direction.
I love to paint water and nature. I also love to paint loose interpretations of my dog, bubble gum machines, and anything else whimsical. I am excited about your class!

I love to paint the ever-changing sky!
I would love to take this class! I got some watercolors for Christmas and have been itching to know how to use them. I'm beyond a beginner when it comes to watercolors, haha. I enjoy painting landscapes that tell stories.
I'm new to watercolors so don't know much about it but I'm having fun playing with my new tools. I've been painting flowers lately just because I find it a little bit easier to sketch.
i LOVE the way you sketch and paint! it's wonderfully unique (: i really love to paint dandelions! i think they would look fabulous done with watercolor (which i have no experience in)

Flowers are my fave to paint =)
I so love your blog, your classes must be divine! Thanks for the chance to win a spot. I don't know if I have a favorite subject to paint yet. You see I have just picked up painting again and I am just having fun doing backgrounds or some random/everyday subject that pops in my sight or brain.

Watercolor painting has always fascinated me, but I've been hesitant to try it on my own. I've done some painting in oils. Flowers would be my favorite subject matter

Animals, in a cartoon style or realistic style...right from Nature!!

I have not used watercolors in ages. I do love to draw architecture and landscapes. Would love to win the free class.
I like the look of loose watercolor in sketches but I haven't been able to get it to work for me in the way I want it to (we joke that I get the ideas but somehow they leak out of my elbow on the way to my hand!). I like to sketch my cat (Murphy's Law) and would like to learn how to capture this terrific tabby in watercolor to show off his beautiful marks and colors. :)
what a great givaway! ive never done an online class before!! my favorite subject to paint is trees and birds...and anything abstract! i looove watercolor and would love to know more techniques using it!
I like to paint and draw people. Faces are the "easiest" for me, but I'm practicing bodies and hands! I'm still just figuring out watercolour, so for now I'm sticking with simple shapes and trees!
Am working on my sketching skills, so for now, I am loving painting in my outline stamp collection. Love filling in the images with my chosen colors. I also love to paint backgrounds and mixed media pieces that I create from photographs that I have taken!

Thank you for your wonderful inspiration!
Ronda L.
Class looks amazing!! I love to paint my imagination!
This sounds like a wonderful class. I love to paint faces, but I need to experiment more. This sounds like a good way to do that.
I've always been drawn to watercolor paintings. The only class I took was a "paint this like me" style, which didn't work for me. I'd like to learn how to be free and fearless with my brush!! The ocean, and the the tiny bits and bobs of nature would be my favorite things to paint.
I love painting with watercolors, though my 3 young children keep me very busy, with little time for painting. I would love to take your class to refresh my skills - I love painting flowers, designs, lettering, etc.
I love to paint people. I draw them with permanent ink and then watercolor them in. Fun stuff. LOVE your stuff. Pick me!!
It's been years since I painted seriously but when I doodle in the few moments I have, it's mandalas, flowers and birds. I'd love to take this class to help me jump start my goal of painting again. Thanks so much for all your inspiring posts and generous giveaway!
I love to paint tulips. So much great color.
Smiles, andra
Loved your last class! ... great job! ... Sounds so fun!!
Vanessa!!!
wow! look at all these comments! I would love to take this class, but it's not in the budget right now. I like to paint everything, but still lifes are my fav...I like painting "things".
Who knew that I would love using watercolors so much? But I do. And my favourite thing to paint is leaves - big leaves small leave green leaves red leaves leaves leaves leaves.
favorite subject to paint is the sky!
i'm so excited for this class!
I haven't painted for myself in quite a while. I mostly tend to my two preschoolers and end up painting in a disney princess watercolor book. For myself I love to paint nature but I lack the taught techniques.
Hello Lisa, I like very much your blog, you are very inspiring. I like to draw only eyes, in every color and shape. Excuse my english, i live in Madrid. Best wishes for you.
