By now you should know that I am a BIG fan of puff paint (otherwise known as 3-D paint or dimensional paint) see here, here, here and here. I always like using it to create pattern on the surface of many different things. And when faced with the challenge of starting to collect baby clothes for our new addition (all the info here), I decided I would rather make or alter things for the first few weeks instead of spending money on expensive clothing- there will be enough time for that in the future :)
So I decided to use dimensional paint to alter a handful of white cotton onesies.
ummmm.... are babies really this small?!?!
I used a product that I haven't used before from ilovetocreate- Scribbles 3-D Paint Pens.
Oh how wonderful I have another puff paint product to add to my stash of materials.
They are like dimensional paint but come in a pen so they are a little easier to hold and maneuver
and they are nontoxic and totally washable. Perfect for altering t-shirts, fabric and all kinds of fiber projects.
I started just like I start all of my pattern drawings and doodles
and began adding more and more
and more in different colors.
I then added some white embellishments with regular Scribbles Dimensional Paint.
I made different versions in different colors.
And now I have a cute little collection of altered onesies!
Oh...They are so unique and amazing,Alisa! Your baby will be the most luckiest little one on Earth. I love the patterns, and colors. Thank you for showing how they are done with photos. I want to try the pens now! I never knew about them until I read your blog. Thank you for sharing!!!!! ^____^
ReplyDeleteHow cute is that!!!
ReplyDeleteOne of a kind clothes for a lucky sweet baby! :-)
Very cute! Is this a hint at the sex of your little one? Isn't it all so amazing?
ReplyDeleteI may have to do a boy version of these... boy stuff is surprisingly limited and kind of boring... what would you do for a boy?
ReplyDelete(and yes they start out that small, but it's doesn't last long.. which can be a good thing or a bad thing)
So very precious! Love it, love it, love it!

So sweet and so happy, Alisa! They turned out gorgeous!

Ever so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAdorable! I love the black and white one. Every now and then I take out the shirt my little girl wore in the hospital and think how crazy it is that she was that tiny! They do grow fast.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Makes me want to do it to my own clothes....
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Beautiful! Can't wait to see more lovely baby clothing creations!
ReplyDeleteHow amazing are you?! :) Those are absolutely beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, as your little one gets older, will you discontinue this method of decoration so that it does not end up in her mouth? Or do you use a special kind of puff paint? Just curious.
those are stunning!! I want to go out and make some for my niece right now.
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely.
ReplyDeleteI thank you for sharing Alisa.
Super cute!!!
ReplyDeleteLovely! Your baby may even be smaller than that, I notice those were 0-3 month onesies. My children need the even smaller Newborn sized clothes!!
ReplyDeleteoh, they look wonderful! i love the mendhi-inspired designs!
ReplyDeletei was going to say that no, babies aren't that small for more than a week or two, but others have disagreed with me! however, i did learn the hard way that the gerber onesies like the ones you painted are REALLY REALLY small compared to most babies and baby clothes! my godson could only wear them for the first weekish, and he was a pretty average sized baby. it turned out that i should have read the reviews on target first!
beautifull !
ReplyDeletethese are just too cute!!
ReplyDeleteWow! That is a great look! The handmade touch makes it a great gift idea, especially for a baby shower for the hard to shop for types.
ReplyDeleteYour babe will be one fashion forward baby!
ReplyDeleteWhen my kids were little I loved making their clothes. My daughter's dresses circulated the church after she was done with them. My mom was a sewer and knitter and my dd was the first and only granddaughter... spoiled.
Twenty years ago smoking and machine embroidery and silk ribbon was "in".
Glad I took pictures of the kids in their outfits.
Now I want grandchildren so I can embellish their clothes!
Love your blog.
Oh, these are just lovely!!
ReplyDeleteThese are so adorable. It looks like you are decorating with frosting on them. Your designs are fabulous!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lucky baby to be dressed up in mommy's beautiful art!
ReplyDeleteFull-term babies are not that small for more than a day or two. :-)
ReplyDeleteTheir stuffed animals, though, can wear those teeny clothes for a long time. :-)
Luckiest baby on earth. These are awesome!
ReplyDeleteSoooo cute! I love your patterns and designs! It's so hard to pick a favorite...I love the white on white but also love the green and blue! Sooo pretty! Both of my boys were born a month early and they were much smaller than that! But like everyone says...they grow up sooo quickly and don't stay small long!
ReplyDeleteHave you tried freezer paper stencils? I think you'd love them!
ReplyDeleteCute!!! Looks like you are having fun painting these onesies!
ReplyDeleteHow cute is that! She will be one stylish baby dressed in Designs by Alisa Burke.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful - but I wouldn't have expected anything else from you! Adorably feminine. How would you have decorated them if your little one was a boy?
ReplyDeleteI'm in LOVE with the onesies you created!! Such a great idea. Never thought of using puff paint. When my boys were babies I was into tye-dyeing onesies/tshirts and that was pretty fun too.

YES! Bring on the baby art! I'm hoping you have a boy so I can get ideas on cool boy stuff to make (b/c I have 3!)
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! And such a great idea! I have loads of plain white onesies waiting for the arrival of my little one, and I've been feeling kind of bummed about their plainness, but not enough to go out and buy fancier items. And who knew (well, I guess you did) that puff paint could look so neat and stylish? I still have nightmares about the florescent and glitter puff paints I experimented with in Junior High. This is very inspiring!

ReplyDeletethey are darling. i couldn't wait to start sewing when i had my first, fortunatly i had a girl so i could make all kinds of cute frilly little things.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness those are so CUTE:)
ReplyDeleteReally cute! I love the Indian influence in the designs.
ReplyDeleteYour little girl is going to be so cute! in these onsies, I kind of want to make some for my little niece on the way.
ReplyDeleteOh Alisa, what beautiful keepsakes for you and your baby! What a lucky baby to have an artsy momma like you! I made a tiny painted hoodie and a pair of booties for my cousin's baby when she was born. (I wish I had made them for my babies.) You are going to look back at these when your child has grown and be delighted you took the time to make them before your life got so busy that it was hard to find the time for such things. Wonderful job!
ReplyDeleteabsolutely beautiful -- what a lucky baby to have your for their mommy :0)

ReplyDeleteThese are just gorgeous, what a lovely idea.
ReplyDeleteYour baby is going to look fantastic and super hip in these.
Wonderful idea! I love what you did with those baby clothes.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea and honestly can't believe I never thought of puff paint...you asked if they really are that small. I'd say yes since both my girls were on the high end of 6 pounds, and stayed in newborn size for quite a bit longer than usual. I have friends though, with 10 pound babies and just cannot imagine!
ReplyDeleteThis will not succeed in reality, that is what I think.
