This time of year can be challenging- it's raining, it gets dark early and this year we've all been battling the colds. All of these factors all add up to CABIN FEVER! And there is nothing better for the soul than a little creativity (at least that is what our family thinks). So we have been spending a lot of time at home and in the studio making art together as a family. If you are a long time follower you will know that we like to capture our process- we set up the video camera in the garage and let it records hours of our painting collaborations. It's really chaotic, super messy, sometimes challenging but always lots of fun and a great way to blow off some steam on those rainy days! We just finished our latest collaboration- this painting is paying homage to Andy's Indonesia heritage. I've put together a peek into our crazy process!

This is amazing, that your little girl gets to be involved. I always wished I could be involved in grown-up activities when I was small. I wanted to cook or clean or be part of it, and got shooed away. Sometimes kids are totally a hindrance more than a help, but that's how they learn! And the result is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteLove this!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely tribute to Andy's heritage and also to your little family.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous collaborative work - as always!
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is, breathtaking!
ReplyDeleteSo much to love about this! Paying homage to Andy's beautiful heritage, that life continues around the art making...Lucy's crying, Andy is carrying in groceries...but especially the way Lucy's role in the collaboration has changed as she has grown up. She's gone from an observer hanging out in a pack on your back in the first video to full on contributor in this video. I love these little peeks into your process. Thank you so much for sharing. It's a great reminder to just make time for getting messy and making something beautiful and that the whole family can get involved!

ReplyDeleteAmazing! I don't know if you've ever talked about the specifics in supplies that you use, but that would be super handy. I'm having fun with mixed media right now but knowing which paints/markers/pens to use together and how to layer them would be awesome!

ReplyDeleteHi Alisa, I wanted to say 'thank you' for such a great blog you keep. I have been following a few artists blogs for around three years now, yours being one of them. Some have come and gone from my list, but yours is consistent, interesting and I always look forward to your posts. I can imagine keeping a blog is such a huge commitment and yours is one of the best. I really appreciated your professional and yet 'down to earth' style :) Lesleigh NZ
