all things pillows and a GIVEAWAY

I am seriously obsessed with pillows (I have a gazillion pillows in my collection and might have a problem) which is why I have decided to dedicate today's post to all things PILLOWS!

In my opinion pillows are one of the easiest and most affordable ways to decorate, accessorize and even change the look and feel of a room. I have all kinds of unique and colorful pillows and covers on hand and stored away. I like to change pillows with the seasons or even when I need to freshen up a room. I have put together a few SIMPLE tips and my favorite ways to use pillows in decorating. I am not a decorator or an expert, I just have a serious passion for pillows!

I love getting creative and making my own pillows- here are a few of my favorite pillow tutorials that I've shared over the years.

While I love to make pillows I also buy them from all kinds of stores (Target, Cost Plus, Urban Outfitters) but my favorite place to shop for unique pillows is on Etsy. My #1 resource (see examples above) is the shop Festive Home Decor- I've purchased more covers than I care to share! Our home is full of colorful covers from Festive Home Decor so imagine my excitement when shop owner Michelle contacted me to see if I wanted to offer a giveaway AND a 20% discount to my readers! It was a no brainer for me!

So here you go-

Festive Home Decor is giving away a $75 store credit to one person
Leave me a comment and tell me how you use (or would use) pillows in your decorating.
I'll draw one name and announce later this week.

AND

If you are in the mood to shop for some new pillow covers (I have my eye on that grey and hot pink one above) head over to Festive Home Decor and use the discount code to receive 20% off your purchase-

BURKE20

offer is good for 1 week!

Now go get creative with those pillows!!

UPDATE- winner is Natalie Murphy!
I will email you with details!

  1. I've never been the first one to comment on your site before! I am up early for a day off and a trip to NYC with my friend. I don't use pillows because I have 2 cats and just figure it is one more thing to get hair on, but if I can frequently change the covers, it might be a nice way to freshen up a drab room.

I was never creative with my home, as I spend all of my money on my supplies to create, but pillows may be a start. Thank you for the give away.

  4. I love pillows too. I tried to create a little nook in the living room with some big floor pillows. I only have 3 right now, I really could use some more to spice it up!

  5. The pillows on my studio couch tell a personal story....Florida, Maryland and North Carolina Catstudio pillows (states in which I have lived), a large creamy white pillow with a black number 5 embroidered on the front (I am one of 5 sisters), and two small decorative pillows with all of the other pillows' colors.

  6. I would love to brighten/freshen up my out door chairs with some colourful pillows :-) thank you for the offer.

  7. I loooove cushions. I have like a gazillion of them. I keep changing the colour schemes to freshen up the living room.
I made only one cushion myself (a little ginger fox), but I hope to make some more some time in the future.
    Thanks for inspirations.

  9. I've got a lot of beige and neutral and would love some pillows to brighten up my living room. I made a couple but I feel I still need a little more color.

  10. I am getting ready to move and just recently found some vintage bedding. All white. Now I have a blank canvas for pillows. I love them and agree, they add so much fun to any space. Thanks for posting all the great ideas :)

  12. I love pillows ! They encourage me to sink down, relax, read and reflect. I find they are an easy way to add a little (or a lot) of colour into any environment. Right now I am looking for materials that are outdoor friendly so I can use them on the deck and not have to take them inside in the evening.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I would use it to decorate my bedroom, it's small and it's hard to move furniture around, so it's been the same way for a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Oh, I have 2 brown leather sofas in my living room that need some serious spicing up! Some fab pillows would fit the bill.

    Thanks

  15. My pillow selection is so sad - we are just using the ones that came with our couch (boring!!). We could really use a colorful fun update!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I use them in what I would describe as places of comfort and relaxation including the lounge, bed, reading nook, outdoor seat etc. They add colour, extra comfort and they are easily changeable!

Thanks for the chance to win!

  17. We found in the evening that we were always competing with our dogs for the pillows. I went to the store and got many pillows for them an area to lay on that didnt include the pillows from the couch that were ours.
They love them, and seem to be able to stick to their own.
    Yeah!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I love using cushions and pillows as extra seating on the floor when we have people over....it adds a lot of coziness to our tiny space!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Oh yes! Pillows! I think a handful of pillows on my deck would make for some cozy spring lounging.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm also crazy about pillows!. Unfortunatly, i don't have much space since i have a really tiny one room flat, however (or because of that), i use pillows to transform my bed to a cosy sofa when inviting my friends.
My dream when i'll get to a bigger place, is to create a cosy space with pillows where one could dream, read, drink tea...

    ReplyDelete
  24. I have a great bench and I need a few pillows for it and also I'm going to need a couple euro pillows for my bed!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. My girls love to make forts in the living room with all my pillows, so adding a few extra would be a huge hit!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I love all your different ideas for pillows and decorating. We just moved from a small townhouse to a little single family. We could use pillows all over the place, but for now - if I won - I would buy some for the girls room! We are going turquoise, pink, yellow, etc. for their room...

    ReplyDelete
  27. I love pillows. I don't love picking them up after my husband and 2 boys throw them off the couch as they just don't get it:). I like the idea of covers to switch out either seasonally or whenever the mood strikes.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I would love to replace the pillows that came with my couch (and are the same color) with pillows that add more color, and are unique!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I have pillows everywhere - the more the merrier! They make a room so much cozier and comfortable. I have crocheted pillow tops, quilted them, stenciled, and just made simple covers. Making a pillow was the first sewing project that I taught to my daughter. Just love them!

  30. With my decor I tend to be safe by sticking with neutrals but that is definitely not my personality, I want to be bold and add some pops of color and texture to liven up the spaces that I spend so much time in. Pillows are a perfect way to do that. I LoveLove the relaxing reading nook you created for the oh so sweet Lucy, my babes would love that. I LoveLove your blog. Thank you so much for the everyday inspiration.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I too love pillows in all shapes and sizes and styles. I would love to add a few to a cozy seating nook in the dormer portion of our bedroom.

  41. This is such a timely post! I just got done majorly cleaning/purging my house over the last week, and just yesterday I was on Etsy looking at fun pillows. I would use pillows to add some much needed color and personality to our living room. Plus, it would be an excuse to get rid of the awful ones that came with our couch.

  45. So excited for this chance to win as I have been searching for more pillows to add to, well everywhere. Right now I need a few more for my upstairs couch and then I need them for the two bedrooms and basement couch. I love using pillows because to me they provide not only comfort for the body when resting on them, but for the mind as well. When I see your photos of all of those pillows you have placed around your home I just get an overall feeling of comfort and want that in my new, first ever home. Plus, I love the COLOR!!!!

  47. My old pillows (on the couch) are on their last legs!! I guess they got too much love! I've been looking around locally to replace them (or their covers) - I would love to be able to do that!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I love pillows! My bed is covered in them! But I also have a window seat that could use some love...

Have you shopped on Society 6? I just recently got a shop there and I love what you can find there! Especially since you have the option to find a design you like and see it on a bunch of different products, including pillows!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I have four boys and our pillows are used for play all the time! They build forts, they jump off bunk beds or stairs into a pile of them, they make stepping stones to cross hot lava from one piece of furniture to another, they make an enormous bed on the floor and all sleep together in a bed of pillows . . .their imagination is endless. So, since my pillows get a lot of use, I use pillow covers a lot to keep them decent looking. I love this post and your bright pillows! Thanks for the discount!

    ReplyDelete

  53. Pillows are my favorite "change out accessory" too!
I could use some new summery bright pillows to wake up our rooms- we have dark wood trim everywhere- which is ok- but needs even more pops to POP! (FYI: I shop Marshall's, etc for ugly clearance pillows- the inserts are sometimes really nice down filled (vs foam) and very inexpensive. ...making it even more reasonable to purchase more new pillow covers!)

  54. Hi Alisa! What fun! We're building a window seat, thanks to your inspiration, so I would use my prize to outfit it with glorious pillows. :) Fun post today - I'm a bit obsessed with pillows too. xo

    ReplyDelete
  81. EEEEEeeek! (Fingers crossed that I win.) I LOVE pillows! I use them very practically because I'm short, so I have to stick pillows behind my back if I want to sit comfortably on normal furniture. I love using coordinating colors in a variety of prints and textures. My current living room pillows are made of a vintage floral print fabric, wool plaid, slubby silk, and an upcycled striped sweater. They're starting to all get worn out (all that back propping and kid-playing has been pretty hard on them), so I would really love to win! Did I mention I LOVE pillows? Lol.

    ReplyDelete
  82. We use them as seat cushions around our ginormous coffee table for a more casual dining experience. Then they either stack in the corner of the living room in a cheery pile, or go back on the couches. I love pillows!

    ReplyDelete
  83. I'm afraid I might have a slight obsession with pillows...just a tiny one. When my husband and I got married and I was decorating our bed, he walked in and asked with a rather bewildered look on his face, "Wait, these are ALL for our bed?!" He is a modern with a slightly minimalist flavor graphic designer, I'm a much more collected and colorful one. It's actually a beautiful unity. But I digress! :D I'd love to add a pillow to the couch for my eight month old to pull off and play with:)

    ReplyDelete
  84. What a cool giveaway!

I love to use pillows to barricade my baby girl from rolling off the bed when we snuggle ;)

I work at JoAnn Fabrics and have a hard time resisting buying all the great fabrics I see daily. My stash is accumulating and I recently figured out that I could easily use some up by making pillow covers. I love the easy change in decorating style/mood of a room by just adding new pillows. With Spring emerging, it's time for some new pillows for the couch and bed.

My kids are teenagers now ( it seems like I blinked and they grew up!) but these pillows would still get well used! :)

  113. I just first want to say that I absolutely LOVE, LOVE your new window seat! I have always wanted one of those (ever since reading The Secret Garden), and you have such a perfect spot for it! And all those beautiful pillows. We have big pillows (probably 60cm or 22" square!) on our couch in the tv room for snuggling up with, leaning against and falling asleep on, and I have some in the living room for adding colour, but I would like more... The ones on the Festive Home Decor page are great!! And it is so nice that they are offering a discount for all of us who don't win the giveaway... YAY!

  115. Nine months ago I moved out of my old house and gave away 75% of my belongings--because I was moving in with my boyfriend and planned to make a new "home" with him. Immediately after moving, things turned sour, and with a sad heavy heart I held off on decorating the house we shared.

Now nine months later I've moved forward--and into another new wonderful home. I have a blank slate and look forward to starting fresh.

I Love the idea of using them as a decorating tool, to mix up colours and patterns, especially since we are renting and are therefore unable to paint. I love the way that you can use them to change the feel of a room, from funky to calm. I actually only have two at this minute, a blue star shaped one and a purple heart sheped one that were a present when i was a teenager :) But your pillow combinations are very inspiring :)

Pillows can be used to quickly change the mood of any room. Currently our living room is rather boring. I have trouble finding pillows that are child proof. I have a one year old boy, Giovanni. Anything with fringe, buttons or other materials easily pulled off by him...have been removed from our couches. This has left us with 2 pillows...both beige and boring. I would love to win...so that maybe I could buy new pillows for our couch...and help to bring some excitement back into our home. Thanks
