Since Lucy arrived I have managed to make my life as an artist a priority- its been a challenge but oh so necessary (read more about it here). And while I have not once struggled with lack of inspiration or ideas (this was one of my early fears) it has been interesting to see how the inspiration and ideas have evolved in just a short amount of time. I still have my "go to" stuff that I love to draw, paint and create but now I have a whole new world to explore though art. Lately much of the subject matter in my daily sketching routine is influenced and dedicated my Lucy. I've been working through using my imagination to illustrate the silly little stories and things that I tell her about throughout the day. My goal has been put them all in a book for her to look through- over and over again. It has been wonderful (and unexpected) to explore this new dimension that having a child has brought to my life and I can't wait to see how being a mom continues to influence my creativity!
Oh Wow! These pages are great!I recently discovered your blog and it is inspiring :)
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day!
These are absolutely amazing!! I hope by the time we have little ones you have made your beautiful drawings into kids books they would sell out in a heartbeat:)

Lucy Loves It! How sweet!
ReplyDeleteAmazing! You keep surprising us with each one of your post! A big kiss for Lucy
ReplyDeleteThese are lovely paintings and what a great idea. You might also like to consider making a canvas book (with non-toxic paints) because I found that the very young tend to tear paper books.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous images. I particularly love the polar bear. My girls are 7 and 5 now and I get to paint alongside them. It's so great!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely "Precious"!! I totally love "Mother Daughter" inspired activities! What a lovely project for you to do for your Little Lucy, and by the 'deep in thought' expression on her face, she approves 100%. What a perfect age to start all of this as well. I started reading to my daughter when she was only 7 days old...she is now going to turn 21 years old this year and you will never catch her without a book! She is a writer and majoring in English. Keep up the Great Work! Love it! (You really should publish a children book.)
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome post! Thanks for sharing.
Speaking of AWESOME...your new Art of Abstraction class is more than wonderful, I am loving every minute! Can't wait to add this week's work to the flickr site.
oh i love your crab holding a star! and your bright fish and sweet bear! and that adorable baby lucy !! Imagine what your creativity will do for HER imagination!!
ReplyDeleteOoh I love them! It never continues to amaze me how children change, and make us grow creatively as artists. Mine have certainly turned mine upside down and inside out, but in a totally good way.
ReplyDeleteLucy is a very lucky girl. His mother, I think so too...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work and you can see Lucy loves it!
ReplyDeleteThese are so cute! She seems to really love them.
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure for both of you. My grandchildren love to look through my sketchbooks to see the pages I do for them. I chuckled watching the recent video of Lucy bouncing around on your back while you painted. I loved every minute of my 3 children's childhood and feel your joy!!
ReplyDeleteThese are lovely, and remind me of the illustrated Christmas letters JR Tolkein wrote for his children; published as the Father Christmas Letters. What a special gift.
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous! Lucy will cherish these!
ReplyDeletethat is such a wonderful idea!! i know her life will be filled with art and that makes me smile. and that chubby baby makes me smile too!! she is so cute! (but we aren't partial now, are we?) lol
ReplyDeleteThese are Beautiful and I see she approves!
ReplyDeleteYour art is more inspiring every day. I love how bright and cheery your illustrations are. Lucy will love these memories even more when she grows up and so will you, the years go by way to fast. Your baby is so adorable and I love the pictures of her looking at your book, she has such a beautiful expression on her face. Thanks for making my day and probably everyone elses with your blog.
ReplyDeletehow lucky is lucy to have such a talented mommy -- you are a true inspiration alisa -- :0)
ReplyDeleteWhat a joy to read that you are loving motherhood like this! Isn't it funny how your brain can't help but follow the path of your life. My little kids are now big teenagers, but they still provide me with a slew of ideas and inspiration. So happy for you!
ReplyDeleteHOORAY for another Lucy post, love love this! She looks very happy with her mama's artwork. What a great feeling to know that she is helping you spread your wings even more and try new things. These are lovely pages, you should think about doing a children's book set.
ReplyDeleteShe is a cutie!!
Seriously wonderful illustrations, love them! So vibrant and cheerful, I can't imagine a child who wouldn't adore looking at them. Alisa, you just amaze me every day with how you've adapted your life as an artist to fit your life as a new mom. That's an accomplishment to be proud of! And little miss Lucy is absolutely adorable.

I see a children's book in your future! You rock sister!
ReplyDeleteLove it!! That will be an awesome keepsake for Lucy.
ReplyDeleteQue lindo!
ReplyDeleteLucy is so lucky to be living in such a happy, artistic, creative and fun environment! Beautiful book Alisa!
ReplyDeletejust fabulous! :D xoxo
ReplyDeleteSuch a great idea! I made something similar with photos when my daughter was tiny. I love the art work more tho.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is 9 (where has the time gone!) and I collected lots of pictures etc and now she loves looking through the book. She is particularly fascinated by her early baby pictures as she tries to get her head around the idea that it is her.
ReplyDeleteMy background is in fashion and Textiles/art and one of the best things was making her first garment!!
Now I have requests and being able to say I can do that for you is brilliant. I am not passing on skills as Sophie asks how I make something. As for inspiration? I have made wall hangings out of her fav t-shirt that she has outgrown but wants to keep, making softies that I would not normally make but I have since made many more! I have been able to use my creative skills to have a stronger bond with Sophie and try out new ideas that otherwise I might not have bothered with unless I was a Mum.
Sorry I seem to have gone on a bit here but I love being a Mummy!

so adorable! i love that polar bear and Lucy looking through the book wide eyed is awesome.

ReplyDeleteThese are so wonderful! Lucy is very lucky. Perhaps a Whimsical Drawing E-Course??? There aren't that many out there. I've looked! My toddlers are always asking me to draw critters for them (or characters for Cars). It would be great to create illustrations like yours for them.
ReplyDeleteSo very cool. I especially love the whale and the shots of your darling enjoying your art :-)
ReplyDeleteI agree. You should try to publish a children's book! My children would LOVE something like what you've created here (and so would I)!
ReplyDeleteWell hey, and why not add children's book author/illustrator to the resume!I instantly saw an ABC book in your future, with those wonderfully vivid artwork's!
ReplyDeletewhat a lucky little girl to have all these beautiful works of art to enjoy. i agree, you should publish a book. also enjoyed watching her look over your shoulder in your picasso style video.
