Nautical Bliss

IMG_9132

Due to an INSANE workload for the next couple of months (for both me and my husband), we have resorted to launching a quest to find whimsy, adventure, escape and inspiration in our backyard. This morning we had a two hour date with the NRP Sagres - a Portuguese tall sailing ship that was docked in San Diego for the week. For two hours we were emersed in another world- TOTAL nautical bliss- and for a split second had convinced ourselves to sell everything and live on a boat. But alas, there is too much to do right to quit life and sail around the world so now it's back to reality- at least for a few more months :)

Hey Alisa! Back in 1976, I got to sail on that ship when it came to Newport, RI for the Bicentennial. At the time, my dad had "connections' with the Portuguese Consulate, and we had the whole crew of the ship to our house for a huge party! I was 17 at the time and it was heaven with all those handsome sailors. When the ship sailed from Newport to New Bedford, MA, we got to sail with them. I still remember hanging out in the crews quarters, drinking Sagres Beer and eating lobster. They had to lower the center mast so they could sail under the bridge and into the harbor. Amazing.....
