While some people have normal hobbies, I collect trash and make things out of it- it is kinda turning into an obsession these days! I have been working on a little side project that makes use of all our recyclables because there is just too much potential in a box of Wheat Thins!! I came up with the idea to slowly transform the contents of our recycle bin into a really long city scape that will eventually be displayed somewhere in our house. I will share more photos of my city scape as it grows!
Here is the start to my project and little inspiration in case you want to make your own.
start with a variety of old food boxed, t.p. rolls, or just about anything made from cardboard!
Give everything a coat of paint
plan out the city scape and once satisfied, glue everything together.
I just couldn't resist posting the comment that Jessica left for me the day I blogged this tutorial- I am still giggling about it...
I want to move to that city. I'd open up a stationary shop in the tube on the right. I could walk there from my loft apartment in the very red building on top...or I could take the cable car they are building with federal stimulus money, but that won't be up and running for at least another year and half.
I love this idea! This project is something I would have come up with in my younger days but as I've gotten older, I have seem to have forgotten how to make fun art. You have inspired me to get creating this weekend and thanks to the blizzard and being snowed in, our recycling bin is overflowing!
ReplyDeletethat looks like a wonderful summer art project to do with kids as well!! love it!
ReplyDeleteLove this but didn't you glue it after you painted the city?

You city is wonderful! I just love it! I will looking forward to seeing it grow and where you end up displaying it in your home. I always have like building so I guess that why I collect Cat's Meow buildings for so long. I was at an art show recently and there was an artist that printed photos on all kinds of empty food boxes. I guess I am going to have to get more creative - I just recycle mine.
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful! Your projects are just wonderful. Thanks so much, I'll be linking.
ReplyDeleteawesome little city, alisa! i'd love to live there!
ReplyDeleteThat is so cute and whimsical. Wonder where I could put one of those? Maybe in my boys' playroom.
ReplyDeleteLove the idea. Thanks!
I LOVE THIS!!! I have been collecting recycled cardboard boxes and glass jars but I never know what to do with them. If you have more ideas, please post them up!! After I try them, I'll send you pictures to check them out. :)

ReplyDeleteLovely city! Awesome idea. This trash collection idea made me remember my best friend's mom. She collects the weirdest things and transformed them in useful projects. I took some shots of her projects and I am planning on writing a post about her! Terrific idea!! So happy to get to you through Claudine's ecourse!
