When we purchased our home it needed lots of TLC- we gutted and remodeled it on our own and it was a HUGE undertaking as first time home buyers (but so worth it!) The hardwood floors were in really bad shape and because we were on a budget we decided to sand and paint them instead of spending the $ to replace them (maybe someday). We decided on bright white to create a clean, light, airy, cottage vibe. While I love our white floors, they are a CHALLENGE to keep up (cleaning and repainting required!) which is something you never read about on design blogs when pretty white floors are posted as inspiration! So I have been doing some research and keeping a file full of inspiring colorful floors and have now started looking at paint chips with the hope that I can get the hubby on board with my plan to add a little color- it's just paint!
Here are a few of my favorites- what do you think?

love the turquois floors and the the patterned floor (10th pic down with 2 cats in it) those are great!! good luck!
ReplyDeletePainted floors are so pretty! I especially like the one with the large pattern as shown by design sponge. It would show less dust I would think. Good Luck! let us know what you decide to do!
ReplyDeleteThose bright pink floral floors from Apartment Therapy would make me smile every day :)
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine did her children's clothing boutique with brown paper bags. It looked like stone and was so cool. Can't wait to see what you do.
ReplyDeleteYou have such lush and earthy greens and reds in your pillows on your sofa... and with the black and white painting... I think a warm grey... maybe with a touch of brick red or something of that sort... but that might not be colorful enough... if not... I love the reds and greens on the inspiration floors.
ReplyDeleteAlisa, only problem with painted floors are the upkeep when you have to 'paint' over a chipmark! But then you could always add a heart or flower or some other design! love the look for sure!
ReplyDeletewith your talent i think you should go for a pattern!
ReplyDeletethe coloured floors are gorgeous too, i love turquoise, but I guess you should pick a co-ordinating colour from your cushions/rug...looking forward to seeing what you do decide :)
I love painted floors. we had one for about ten years. The plain ones appeal to me most, especially the first 2 pics, but i like the other colors as well. I'd never be able to choose from all those!
ReplyDeleteLove the stripe floors (my husband thinks that's crazy)! So Moroccan! We sanded our bathroom floor and wiped off-white paint on and off so they look beautifully distressed and topped it off with a sealer - they look great!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking a light turquoise would look great, and it looks great with just about any color. Oh, but I do love a nice red!!
ReplyDeleteI Adore the bright colors and your beautiful floors!!
ReplyDeleteI long for brightly colored walls!
I too was instantly draw to the turquoise floor! If I were to paint my floors, I'd stick to cooler hues...although I liked the rosey and black floors, I think warm tons would be too energizing and the black would sometimes feel to harsh. Good luck! I made he mistake of tiling my kitchen in white...what a constant mess! The only thing smart I did was use black grout!
ReplyDeleteWow! I can't wait to see what YOU come up with...with your creativeness, you will create a masterpiece!
ReplyDelete:)
I love painted floors and would love to see your version of it. I'm thinking not a one color application?! I adore the whole Coastal Living loft that has purple and teal (my signature colors) but I also know there is no way in hell that would be a house shared with my husband... maybe when I own a studio it will look like that!
ReplyDeleteLove them ALL but especially the floral one from apartment therapy... scatter rugs that don't slip because they're really PAINT!!
ReplyDeleteWith your cool style and talent I think you should paint some really cool patterned area rugs to define spaces and maybe a painted border around the perimeter. Maybe something like those mugs you did a short while back?
ReplyDeleteI really like the light turquoise and light blue floors. I think when you use a color like red or green you are kind of limiting yourself. Goodluck!:)
ReplyDeleteI love all of these colorful floors! Ours is tile red and I think it's really cozy. Go for it!
