driftwood jewelry stand

I have TONS and tons of bracelets that I have been trying to display in an organized way so I decided to build a couple of jewelry stands out of driftwood. Believe me (again) when I say that I love using driftwood in art and craft projects because there are hundreds of ways to put it use and this is just one more!

I started by collecting a variety of driftwood.

I drilled holes in the wood and glued them to each other.

I let them dry and VOILA...a fun stand to organize all of my arm candy!

driftwood mirror

As most of you out there know, I LOVE finding creative ways to use driftwood and figured it was time to create a sunburst mirror with driftwood.
While I have seen a variety of driftwood mirrors I haven't see any with painted drift wood so I got busy painting stripes on my driftwood.

Using Gorilla Epoxy I glued the driftwood to the edge of a round mirror.

I added a hook to the back (using epoxy).

The result is a really fun little mirror!

driftwood flowers

I love that even simple things can easily be transformed, with a little paint and creativity, into something new! Recently I was inspired to create some whimsical wood flowers that I could for pops of color around the house.

I dug through my driftwood collection (yes I actually have a collection) and picked out some smooth pieces.

  • I painted simple, colorful and whimsical flowers on each piece.

  • Next I drilled a hole in the bottom of the driftwood and using an old dried up paint brush (something I also collect) inserted the brush into the driftwood flower.

  • Last, I painted scraps of 2x2 wood blocks, drilled another hole in the top, added a little dab of wood glue and inserted the paint wood flower.

The result are whimsical little flower sculptures that brighten up any room of the house!

driftwood boats

I am pretty sure driftwood boats are nothing new (those who live at the sea have been making them for forever)
but with a beach full of driftwood outside my front door, I couldn't resist putting my twist on the idea. Its a fun
spring/summer project perfect for kids or for the kid at heart AND a whimsical way to add a little nautical and beach
inspired decor to your home!

I wanted to use colorful painted paper for my sails. 1. I started by painting my sail with watercolors.
2. I added details with a black pen. 3. Next, I glued a dowel to the back of the sail.

4. After collecting all kinds of driftwood, I selected a piece for my ship. 5. I poked a hole into the wood.
6. Then I used all purpose glue to the hole 7. and then placed the sail into the hole.

The result is a simple and colorful little boat!

I got even more creative by using different shapes for the sails, pattern and even added flags.
