harvesting seeds

IMG_4145
My mom is a long time gardner and every fall she harvests the seeds from the flowers in her gardens. Over weeks and months she collects the seed pods from the plants, dries them out and then stores them in paper envelopes. This year I thought it would be fun to make creative seed packets to store the seeds and to use as holiday stocking stuffers and present toppers!

Untitled-1 copy copy
1. I started with some quick sketches of flowers on recycled book pages. 2. I added color with watercolors. 3. Next I scanned my flower sketches and used Photoshop to alter and add text to them. 4. Last I printed out the flower labels, cut them out and used brown paper to create small envelopes and added the flower images to the envelope.

Now its time to fill the packets with seeds!

As always, Alisa, a lovely idea. And I love the photos of generations at work. Would have loved to do this with my grandma too. It's such a precious moment, when all generations come together like in old times and work and spend time together.

how perfect is this? there's such an analogy here with seeds and generations of women harvesting them. beautiful times. the seed packets are amazing, as usual. what font did you use for the text on your packets? it's a perfect compliment to your lovely sketches.

I absolutely adore the photo of the generations! I have a similar photo of me with my mom & grandma, tying off a quilt. My grandma is no longer with us and it's one of my most treasured photos.

Thank you for bringing back such a wonderful memory :-)

Alisa, I love the pictures of the hands working with the seeds. I have a picture of my grandmother's hands and it's one a treasure. Have you ever drawn hands at various stages of aging? I love the character of hands that reflect a lifetime of workmanship.
