new online class- watercolor bliss and giveaway!

watercolor copy

My next online class starts June 6th and registration goes live today!

In my last online class- Sketchbook Delight I touched on using watercolors when sketching. I received so much feedback about working with watercolors that I decided to dedicate a class to methods, techniques, projects and inspiration with watercolors. (With my own unique, simple, messy spin of course!)

watercolor bliss online class

This online class will introduce you to everything you need to know about working with watercolors. From exploring a variety of simple supplies and tools (even how to create your own pigments) to learning all about traditional techniques and ways to break the rules, from mixing and layering color to dripping and splattering to creating compositions and discovering how to use watercolors in a variety of different projects to ultimately finding your own style.

If you enjoyed Sketchbook Delight and are looking to push it further with watercolors OR if you are new to using watercolors- this is the class for you!

I don't have a favorite subject to paint. I've been getting more into creating from life instead of photos, so my inspiration comes from around me. This summer I will be documenting the growth of my first garden and it would be great to have instruction in different techniques.

I’m not very original with my painted subjects – I still love flowers and landscapes at heart, but I do love to use watercolors for abstract backgrounds. Looking forward to this class – thanks for the opportunity!

I'm a beginner so I like to paint background pages in my journal with a light wash of water color over gesso. Thanks!

(?) Should one take the sketchbook class first??? I have been experimenting with watercolor since Melly Testa introduced me to them. I am smitten! I love to paint nature - birds, flowers, rocks - whatever my eyes focus on at that moment.

I haven't used watercolors in years, but I'd love to get back to them. I have begun sketching again, and my cats are my main subjects. A mouthy tonkinese and a sweet-faced British shorthair keep me busy.

Oh, I would LOVE to win a spot! I never got along very well with watercolor in high school, so I concentrated on oils instead, but your work makes it look so fun that I want to try it again. :)
My favorite subject to paint is sunsets/sunrises or anything else colorful since I feel deprived of color from working in pencil for so long.

Stina said...

I would prefer to use the watercolors as a sketching media, like you do. If I paint, it's usually color-based abstraction. I do mostly metalworking, and I think being able to sketch in the watercolor will allow me to achieve a sense of dimension in my sketching.

Unknown said...

This may sound cliche, but I love to paint flowers. They make me so happy! I would probably venture out into other subjects if I was more familiar with watercolors, but they intimidate me. I would love to learn more!

I love watercolors but I'm not quite sure that they love me yet. They have been with me through all my travels. My best answer is that it's whatever catches my eye.

I like the look of loose watercolor in sketches but I haven't been able to get it to work for me in the way I want it to (we joke that I get the ideas but somehow they leak out of my elbow on the way to my hand!). I like to sketch my cat (Murphy's Law) and would like to learn how to capture this terrific tabby in watercolor to show off his beautiful marks and colors. :)

I like to paint and draw people. Faces are the "easiest" for me, but I'm practicing bodies and hands! I'm still just figuring out watercolour, so for now I'm sticking with simple shapes and trees!

Am working on my sketching skills, so for now, I am loving painting in my outline stamp collection. Love filling in the images with my chosen colors. I also love to paint backgrounds and mixed media pieces that I create from photographs that I have taken!

This sounds like a wonderful class. I love to paint faces, but I need to experiment more. This sounds like a good way to do that.

I've always been drawn to watercolor paintings. The only class I took was a "paint this like me" style, which didn't work for me. I'd like to learn how to be free and fearless with my brush!! The ocean, and the the tiny bits and bobs of nature would be my favorite things to paint.

I love painting with watercolors, though my 3 young children keep me very busy, with little time for painting. I would love to take your class to refresh my skills - I love painting flowers, designs, lettering, etc.

It's been years since I painted seriously but when I doodle in the few moments I have, it's mandalas, flowers and birds. I'd love to take this class to help me jump start my goal of painting again. Thanks so much for all your inspiring posts and generous giveaway!

I haven't painted for myself in quite a while. I mostly tend to my two preschoolers and end up painting in a disney princess watercolor book. For myself I love to paint nature but I lack the taught techniques.
