inside my sketchbook- oregon beachcombing

IMG_3510

Having been raised in a beach town and taught to appreciate the ocean, I've always been smitten with the sea- the smells, the colors, the treasures- there was even a short moment when I thought about giving up my dream of being an artist and wanted to be an oceanographer (until I found out how much math and science I needed!) These days my passion for the ocean is greater than ever. Because I am BEYOND blessed to live in a beach town in So. Cal. and have the ability to travel to my hometown beach in Oregon, I do not take a moment of it for granted. This last week at home in Oregon I used my camera to record my favorite findings, collected things to add to my collection and spent a great deal of time drawing and making notes about my findings in my sketchbook.

Here is a peek inside...

Seriously, I can't believe that is just your sketchbook--so pretty, and I looooove the colors! I share your love for the beach, something serious, and while I live in the Bay Area where there are beautiful beaches, I often long to live in a places with a warm beach where I can actually get in the water. At least I can make easy trips down to southern California a couple times a year. :)

I hope that one day you will seriously consider publishing a Book of your Sketchbooks. I'm fighting the urge to toss mine into the fire after seeing yours, but instead I'll just become inspired! Thanks again A.B.....

I'm wondering if you have a favorite type/brand of sketch book? Is there one in particular that works well with your use of watercolors? I did not see anything listed under your FAQ section. Inspiring!

This has given me some wonderful ideas. Your colors are yummy! I would love to do sketches of those things around me. I am in the industrial Mid-West. I'd like to do drawing of abandoned building, rusted cars and lonely streets. Ok, now, having said that I guess I should find a book and get to work. Thank you for your fantastic work!

Lovely. Visiting the Pacific coast beach in both Oregon and Washington are some of the highlights of my childhood memories.

I love shells and beach detritus and beachcomb here in England every chance I get!

I live in So. Cal and never find such nice treasures...However, when I lived in Washington we'd visit Seaside, OR and I found lots of treasures. Loved your sketches. So light and delicate, yet detailed...so detailed. Love it!
